Lead Engineer in Enterprise Knowledge Graph Team
Introduction to role
Join us at AstraZeneca, a science-led, pure-play pharmaceutical company, where Sustainable, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable & Reusable) data is the lifeblood of our operations. We are seeking a Lead Engineer in our Enterprise Knowledge Graph Team. This role is critical for the delivery of the AstraZeneca corporate strategy, where Data, AI and Digital are foundational value drivers for Innovative Science. In the Enterprise Knowledge Graph Team, you will be involved with delivering Knowledge Graph and AI capabilities across the whole of AstraZeneca, from R&D through to Commercial. In addition to project delivery, you will also be involved in developing tooling capabilities that supports common patterns of standard methodology.
Accountabilities
- Lead and participate in the design, development, and deployment of knowledge graph solutions.
- Set and enforce high standards for code quality, testing, and documentation.
- Conduct comprehensive code reviews to ensure alignment to standard methodologies and maintain codebase integrity.
- Collaborate with project managers to gather technical requirements, define project scope, and create detailed technical specifications.
- Provide technical support to project managers to ensure the timely delivery of projects and alignment with business objectives.
- Assist in managing and mitigating technical risks, ensuring proactive communication and problem-solving.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers, fostering their professional growth and technical skills.
- Develop and implement training programs, code labs, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends.
- Lead the evaluation and integration of new tools, frameworks, and methodologies to enhance the team’s capabilities.
- Act as a liaison between the engineering team and other partners, ensuring clear communication of technical concepts and project status.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
- Implement and maintain robust development processes, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure the scalability, reliability, and security of knowledge graph solutions.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
- Proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale, distributed systems.
- Experience with large-scale data workflows.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical partners.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies and tools.
Desirable Skills/Experience
- Experience with Labelled Property Graphs (e.g., Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) and/or semantic web standards (RDF, OWL, SPARQL).
- Experience with machine learning, natural language processing, or analytics.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Contributions to open-source projects or publications in relevant fields.
- Understanding of data integration and ETL processes.
- Experience with Microservices architecture and RESTful APIs.
