Role Barcelona onsite - 3 days at the office / 2 days at home
The ‘Enterprise AI Governance Policy Manager’ is a high-profile role to drive forward AstraZeneca’s work to ensure that AI is developed, deployed and used in a safe, responsible and ethical way. This is a unique opportunity to lead innovative and cutting-edge work, which makes a meaningful difference to our organisation.
You will become a core part of AstraZeneca’s Enterprise AI Governance team, which is part of the Enterprise Data Office. The mission of Enterprise AI Governance is to ensure that AstraZeneca can maximise the value of AI, whilst managing risks, complying with regulations and protecting our business and patients.
In this role, you will lead work which enables AstraZeneca to prepare for, and comply with, AI regulations and standards. This will involve developing new policies and guidance, designing and delivering AI training and education, reviewing and advising on sensitive AI use cases, and tracking and reporting on compliance maturity levels across the company.
You will be a subject matter in AI regulations, like EU AI Act, as well as regulations in other jurisdictions like China, the U.S. and beyond. Crucially, you will leverage your knowledge to ensure that our AI governance framework and processes are enabling effective AI regulatory compliance. Finally, you will engage externally to position AZ as a leader in this space and shape the regulatory environment.
This is a highly visible role with ample opportunities to develop a global network and influential voice, both internally and externally. You will work closely with technical colleagues from across the AI and Data Science ecosystem, as well as colleagues in functions including Legal, Compliance and AI strategy.

Accountabilities
Responsibilities will be expected to evolve over time as our approach to AI Governance matures. They will include but will not be restricted to leading and carrying out:
- Develop and update AI governance policies, standards, guidelines and processes.
- Track and monitor global AI regulatory developments.
- Lead work to update and maintain AstraZeneca’s Enterprise AI Catalogue and associated processes.
- Produce metrics reports and data visualisations on AI governance, risk and compliance.
- Deliver workshops, presentations and educational sessions on AI governance and compliance.
- Develop training and educational materials on AI governance and responsible AI.
- Forge partnerships and alliances with AI, data and governance stakeholders across AstraZeneca.
- Undertake AI governance assurance and risk assessment reviews of AI projects and use cases.
- Evaluate AI governance compliance with targeted audit and assurance activities.
- Identify and implement innovative ways to modernise and streamline AI governance processes, with new tools and technology.
Essential Skills/Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g., Law, Public Policy, Ethics, Data Science and AI etc.).
- 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working in policy, governance and/or compliance in a business environment.
- Understanding of the AI policy and regulatory environment. This includes an understanding of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks applying to AI (e.g. EU AI Act, China AI laws etc.).
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
- Experience delivering training and education sessions.
- Superb communication and social skills – able to collaborate closely with employees at all levels. Adept at engaging with senior leaders and important stakeholders.
- Sound judgement, with ability to make complex decisions and provide guidance and feedback on sensitive issues.
- Demonstrable ability to communicate and explain complex issues to a non-technical audience.
- Ability to work under stress and manage conflicting priorities.
Desirable Skills/Experience

- Postgraduate degree in relevant field (e.g., Law, Public Policy, Ethics, Data Science and AI etc.).
- Demonstrable knowledge of and direct experience working on AI governance is preferred.
- Experience working in a senior governance role is preferred.
- Technical knowledge and understanding of AI, data science and machine learning.
- Deep, practical understanding of the EU AI Act.
