As an Associate Director Informatics within Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DS&AI), based at our growing Barcelona site, you will be the lead developer of software for both one-time analysis and robust, widely used scientific tools and systems. Applying an understanding of biology, drug discovery, and computer science, you will work with colleagues in DS&AI, across R&D and beyond to understand biology, accelerate the discovery of new therapeutics, and develop new technologies.

Accountabilities:
- Responsible for leading the development of software for both one-time analysis and robust, widely used scientific tools.
- Build effective relationships with an established range of partners to ensure utilization and value of software and analyses.
- Clearly and objectively communicate results, as well as their associated uncertainties and limitations. Proactively gather feedback.
- Mastering new technology and scientific thinking and applying it to deliver results.

Essential Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree level or equivalent number of years of experience in science-based education essential, postgraduate education in science, bioinformatics/system biology or computer science a plus.
- Full stack software development skills, relational databases, Java server side development, and web frontend development.
- Demonstrable ability to create high quality software and innovative solutions.
- Scientifically literate. Able to pick up new ideas and concepts quickly.
- Hands on experience with research and handling & analysis of scientific datasets a distinct advantage.
- Track record of innovative research an advantage.
- Ability to design and create new data analysis or algorithms.
- Experienced in leading development, driving good development practices and high quality.
- Thoroughness and tenacity in solving problems.
- Excellent analytic skills – able to see the underlying problem and synthesize transformative solutions.
- Experience working in the pharma/biotech industry or in biological academic research is an advantage. Knowledge of the biologics drug discovery process a strong advantage.


Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Hands on experience with research and handling & analysis of scientific datasets a distinct advantage.
