Meet Melissa - Senior Manager, Talent & Organization Effectiveness

How long have you worked at AstraZeneca and what do you like most about your job?

I have worked at AstraZeneca for 5 years. What I like most is that at AstraZeneca I work with a diverse slate of talented employees working together to deliver life-changing medicines to patients.  I have the opportunity to connect with colleagues locally but also across our global 60,000+ employee population.  This creates endless opportunities for collaboration, learning and personal and professional growth.

What do you like to do when you aren't working?

I enjoy spending time with my family.  I like to travel, spend time at the beach, go wine tasting, exercise and learn and experience new things.  I recently enrolled in a Speed Spanish class through the local community college in hopes of becoming fluent some day!

Fun fact about you that people may not know?

I am a volunteer Coach for Girls on the Run.

What’s your work/life balance experience been at AZ?

I have a nice work/life balance.  I work hard and strive to deliver the best results every time.  I’m able to balance my work with my home life and have flexibility when needed.

How do you network with other women both inside and outside of AZ?

There are several ways I network internally - I actively engage with our numerous employee engagement activities and teams, we have a great online social platform that connects all of us globally and provides groups for all employees to collaborate and network including women specific groups and topics. I also “raise my hand” often to gain opportunities to work on new project teams that will connect me to a greater population of employees.  Externally, I volunteer in the community, participate in professional association chapters, and have built a partnership with the Woman to Woman Mentoring Program in Frederick County.  AstraZeneca now sponsors the STEM program that connects women in STEM to undergraduate women enrolled in college and interested in STEM careers. This connects us externally and also helps to strengthen our talent pipeline.

What would you like other women to know about joining AZ as a new employee?

AstraZeneca is a great place to work.  It is challenging, fast-paced, ever-changing, and inclusive, dynamic, and high-performing.  There are many opportunities to build and grow your career.  Raise your hand often and own your development to really capitalize on all there is to offer.

We’ll keep you up to date
