Meet Angela - Manufacturing

How long have you worked at AstraZeneca and What do you like most about your job?

I've been here for 12 years and I enjoy managing a high-performing team that has direct impact to the manufacture of the life-saving medicines needed by patients.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

I am a mom of 2, so I don’t have much free time for myself. I enjoy family time and ensure I keep my kids busy in sports, activities, and community events.

Fun fact about you that people may not know?

My maternal grandmother was an immigrant in her early 20s from Mexico, so I am only 2nd generation American, which helped me secure a few scholarships through my college years.

What’s your work/life balance experience been at AZ?

AZ is very flexible and accommodates my life outside of work, meaning I may have to make up time outside of standard working hours as and where required.

How do you network with other women both inside and outside of AZ?

I network by staying active and leading activities at my site, as well as being part of multiple cohorts, such as HBA, NOW, Women’s Summit (no known as Empowerment Summit), and Women As Leaders. Outside of work, I am a board member of my local church and have participated in other activities with the Red Cross and Women’s Build, as well as being active on social media, for example LinkedIn.

What would you like other women to know about joining AZ as a new employee?

AZ is a workplace that strives to be A Great Place To Work. They encourage all of their employees to bring their whole self to work, meaning you can be your authentic self in the workplace. There are many employee related activities, as well as activities targeted towards different diverse groups, such as women.

How do you feel AstraZeneca best supports your career as a female employee?

I feel AZ supports all employees and is truly behind ensuring the right person is in the right role. I believe that the company focuses on the employee and the value of that employee, rather than the gender or ethnicity of the employee, which is a great confidence.
