What you’ll do

AstraZeneca is seeking a Medical Advisor to join our Medical Affairs team. This is a scientifically driven, outward-facing role for a medical affairs professional who enjoys combining strategic thinking with meaningful engagement across the healthcare ecosystem.

About the role

The Medical Advisor is a hybrid position, typically split 70% office-based and 30% field-based, responsible for developing and executing local medical strategy within a defined therapeutic area (TA). You will work closely with key external experts (KEEs), healthcare professionals (HCPs), healthcare organisations (HCOs), and patient advocacy groups to support clinical practice change, pre-launch readiness, and improved patient outcomes.

You will act as a scientific expert for AstraZeneca’s products and pipeline, translating clinical data into impactful, non‑promotional scientific exchange while feeding valuable insights back into cross‑functional decision-making.

This role operates primarily at country level, with possible involvement in Baltic-level initiatives depending on portfolio priorities.

Key responsibilities

What you’ll do

Medical & scientific engagement (external)

  • Lead high-quality scientific exchange with KEEs, HCPs, HCOs and other stakeholders
  • Communicate complex medical data in a clear, balanced and impactful way
  • Organise and lead advisory boards, scientific exchange meetings and preceptorships
  • Act as a scientific speaker at external meetings, in line with local regulations and AZ standards
  • Respond to unsolicited requests for medical information in an objective and compliant manner
  • Build partnerships to support transform-care initiatives and guideline-driven medical therapy (GDMT) implementation

Insight generation & strategy

  • Gather and analyse disease area and clinical practice insights
  • Identify unmet medical needs and data gaps in collaboration with Evidence, Access and Commercial teams
  • Translate insights into actionable medical strategies that support patient access and future business opportunities

Evidence generation & development support

  • Collaborate with regional and global Evidence teams on RWE, ESR and other evidence-generation initiatives
  • Act as local medical contact for investigators where relevant
  • Support priority clinical trial activities in line with regional and global guidance

Internal scientific leadership

  • Act as subject-matter expert for the therapeutic area internally
  • Contribute to cross-functional teams (e.g. value teams, brand teams)
  • Provide internal training on disease areas, clinical data and market insights
  • Review promotional and non-promotional materials and selected regulatory documents from a medical perspective
  • Support reimbursement and patient access activities

Planning & governance

  • Develop and execute the local medical activity plan, including budget planning and tracking
  • Ensure all activities are compliant with local regulations, global standards and internal SOPs
  • Accurately document interactions and insights using AZ-approved systems

What you’ll bring

Essential

  • Experience in Medical Affair within Innovative Pharma is an advantage
  • Degree in life sciences or a related discipline
  • Strong scientific curiosity and learning agility
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in English, Native Language speaker essential
  • Ability to engage credibly with healthcare stakeholders
  • Customer-focused mindset with strong collaboration skills
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and healthcare environment
  • Ability to travel and a valid driver’s licence

Desirable

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or advanced scientific degree
  • Previous experience (≈2 years) in Medical Affairs
  • Clinical and/or research experience within a relevant therapeutic area
  • Project and budget management experience
