Associate Director, Data Steward
This is what you will do:
The Associate Director, Data Steward plays a central role in maximizing the value of organizational data and establishing a highly reliable data utilization environment. This position will closely collaborate with the ADO (Alexion Data Office), taking the lead in designing and implementing quality management, standardization, and governance frameworks for diverse data assets both within and outside the organization. Under the enterprise data strategy driven by the ADO, you will contribute to building scalable data foundations to accelerate rapid insight generation and data-driven decision making.
Additionally, you will lead the application and operation of governance structures in compliance with global standards set by AstraZeneca, while also ensuring adherence to relevant regulations and maintaining license to operate (LTO). This includes clarifying data accountability and designing and operating practical, agile governance models aligned with organizational strategies, incorporating automation to enhance data discovery and usability.
Through quality management, anomaly monitoring, and data literacy initiatives, you will provide support for management decisions and strategy development from a data perspective, and contribute to patient-centric value creation as well as expanding diagnostic and treatment opportunities in the rare disease area.
You will be responsible for:
- Closely collaborate with the ADO (Alexion Data Office) to lead the design, establishment, and operation of quality management and governance frameworks for internal and external data assets
- Manage data standardization, metadata management, and creation and maintenance of data dictionaries in alignment with AstraZeneca global standards and data privacy regulations
- Oversee the design, control, and maintenance of data marts and data lakes to expand and ensure reliability of organization-wide data platforms
- Utilize Power BI and other tools to evaluate, monitor, and report data, visualizing insights and governance status
- Drive continuous evaluation and improvement processes to maintain and enhance data quality, integrity, and scalability
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and data owners to gather requirements, set data utilization policies, and plan and deliver data literacy and awareness programs
- Support swift decision-making and patient-centric value creation, particularly in the rare disease area, by strengthening scalable enterprise data foundations
You will need to have:
- Professional experience in the field of data management:
Expertise in data quality management, governance, standardization, metadata management, and data dictionary management - Experience in building and managing data platforms:
Skills in designing and operating data marts, data lakes, ETL processes, and cloud environments (e.g. AWS) - Knowledge and practical experience in data privacy and regulatory compliance:
Understanding and implementation of healthcare/pharmaceutical industry-specific data regulations, privacy requirements (GDPR, HIPAA), and license maintenance (LTO) - Experience in designing and operating governance frameworks:
Track record of building governance models and developing organization-wide policies and processes - Data analysis and visualization skills:
Proficiency in Power BI and similar tools for data evaluation, monitoring, and reporting - Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders:
Proven experience working with data owners and global data teams - Experience in planning and conducting data literacy and awareness programs:
Background in employee education and promoting data utilization across the organization
We would prefer for you to have:
- Proven track record in strengthening medical data regulation and privacy management
- Knowledge and practical experience in automating data governance processes
- Experience and expertise in the pharmaceutical industry
- Strong logical thinking and problem-solving skills (ability to lead processes from analysis to strategy and execution)
- Business-level proficiency in both Japanese and English
- Master’s degree or higher in data management, informatics, medical information, statistics, or related fields
