This is a senior role with end-to-end responsibility for policy and government affairs, patient advocacy, communications, and reputation management. You will act as Alexion’s corporate affairs leader in the Nordics—shaping the external environment, advising leadership, and ensuring credible, compliant, and impactful engagement.

Your role

Strategic leadership

  • Own and deliver the Nordic Corporate Affairs strategy, aligned with global priorities and tailored to Swedish and Nordic healthcare systems.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Nordic and cluster leadership on policy developments, stakeholder dynamics, and reputational risks and opportunities.
  • Shape the external environment to support sustainable patient access and long-term business success.

Policy and government affairs

  • Define and implement policy-shaping objectives across Sweden and the Nordics, reflecting national and regional decision-making structures.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with governments, agencies, payers, policymakers, trade associations, and think tanks.
  • Represent Alexion, AstraZeneca, Rare Disease in public processes, including consultations, hearings, and forums, articulating clear and credible policy positions.

Patient advocacy

  • Develop strategic partnerships with patient organisations to ensure patient perspectives influence policy dialogue and system-level decision-making.
  • Ensure patient insights inform our external positioning and engagement strategies.

Communications and reputation

  • Lead external communications in the Nordics, including media relations, narrative development, and spokesperson preparation.
  • Position Alexion, AstraZeneca, Rare Disease as a credible voice on rare disease, innovation, and sustainable healthcare.
  • Anticipate, monitor, and manage issues that could impact our reputation or license to operate.

Internal integration and governance

  • Partner closely with Commercial, Market Access, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Patient Advocacy teams to ensure aligned external narratives and coordinated engagement.
  • Manage external agencies, partners, and the Nordic Corporate Affairs budget in alignment with EUCAN standards.

Reporting line

The role is part of the Central Europe and North Europe (CENE) cluster. You report to the Senior Director, Europe & Canada (EUCAN) Corporate Affairs, with a dotted-line relationship to the Country Director, Nordics, and work closely with Corporate Affairs peers in the Netherlands and Alpine region. This role is a member of the Nordic Leadership Team.

Essential

  • Significant experience (typically 8+ years) in corporate affairs / public affairs within biopharmaceuticals, healthcare, government, or a leading agency.
  • Senior-level expertise across government affairs, policy, communications, and patient advocacy.
  • Strong understanding of the Swedish healthcare and policy landscape, including national and regional decision-making.
  • Proven ability to engage credibly with senior policymakers, payers, patient leaders, and executives.
  • Strong strategic capability combined with a hands-on approach suitable for a Nordic environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively in international, matrixed organisations.
  • Fluency in English and at least one Nordic language (Swedish strongly preferred).

Desirable

  • Experience leading Corporate Affairs at affiliate or regional level within a larger pharmaceutical company.
  • Prior responsibility for Sweden as a primary market.
  • Strong media relations and issues-management experience.
  • Experience with digital and social content in regulated environments.
