BUSINESS AREA – Singapore Marketing Company, Rare Disease Business Unit

AstraZeneca is accelerating the expansion of our geographical footprint in rare diseases following the acquisition of Alexion in 2021. Rare diseases is a high-growth therapy area with rapid innovation and significant unmet medical need. Over 7,000 rare diseases are known today – yet less than 1% of them have an approved treatment.

As we bolster our leadership in Rare Diseases, we are seeking a Senior Brand Manager to join our Commercial Team within the Rare Diseases Business Unit. This full-time role involves designing and implementing strategic brand initiatives for the rare disease sector. You will be crucial in developing local brand strategies in collaboration with cross-functional teams, ensuring flawless execution of marketing tactics. This role demands a keen understanding of the rare disease landscape and the ability to navigate unique market challenges effectively.

Role Overview

The Senior Brand Manager takes a leadership role in driving the commercial strategy for high-value rare disease portfolios. This position requires advanced strategic thinking, the ability to lead complex business cases, and deep cross-functional leadership—particularly working alongside medical experts to navigate highly specialized therapeutic areas.

What you’ll do

Your marketplace insights and patient focus will shape and direct strategic marketing plans for the product lifecycle, ensure execution of the brand plan for long-term brand success and develop clear country value propositions for patients and healthcare professions.

An originator, you will be responsible for brand success by employing cross-functional engagement strategies, exploring new and innovative approaches to brand communications and responding to constructive feedback internally and externally.

In addition, you will be lead on new product planning including leading pre-launch, launch, and collaborative efforts within the cross functional team including commercial planning, scenario mapping, risk planning and mitigation strategies, lifecycle management, feasibility assessment and forecasting for new assets in Rare Disease. Assist the Business Unit Head to plan for market access scenarios and resources to maximize uptake and user experience at launch.

You will also be managing:

  • Brand Strategy Development: Create and manage marketing strategies tailored to the rare disease market, ensuring alignment with business goals and audience needs.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough market analysis to identify trends, competitive insights, and opportunities for brand growth.
  • Business Case Preparation: Develop robust, data-driven business cases for new market opportunities, local resource allocation, and strategic funding approvals.
  • Medical Collaboration: Work in close partnership with the Medical Affairs team to translate complex clinical data into ethical, impactful, and scientifically sound commercial strategies.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with internal teams, including sales, regulatory, market access, and corporate affairs, to ensure unified brand messaging and successful strategy execution.
  • Campaign Management: Develop and oversee marketing campaigns, monitoring their performance and ensuring they stay within budget and timeline constraints.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with healthcare professionals and patient advocacy groups to support brand objectives, expand access, and shape policies favorable to rare disease treatment and care.
  • Content Development: Create and manage marketing materials, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and effectively conveying the brand message.
  • Performance Monitoring and Reviews: Lead internal performance reviews to assess brand performance metrics and contribute insights for ongoing strategy refinement.
  • Launch Planning: Lead marketing efforts for new product launches to ensure successful market entry and adoption.
  • Compliance: Ensure all marketing activities adhere to industry regulations and company policies, maintaining ethical standards.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Business Case Preparation: Advanced ability to forecast revenue, estimate ROI, model financial scenarios, and present compelling commercial proposals to senior leadership.

  • Scientific Aptitude: Ability to understand complex clinical data and collaborate productively with medical experts and key opinion leaders.

  • Financial Acumen: Strong budget and revenue management including strategic resource allocation skills.

  • Strategic Leadership: Proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders and leading cross-functional teams without direct authority.

Essential for the role

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree or higher.

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical marketing with good track record of effective implementation of plan, new launches, and campaign

  • Proven pharmaceutical commercial experience in Rare Disease (must have).

  • Understanding of government funding structures, especially for high-cost drugs, and familiarity with KPK and alternative funding (must have).

  • Broad understanding of the commercial, operational and strategic aspects of the pharmaceutical business

  • Experience and comfort working in cross-functional, virtual, and matrix teams.

  • Ability to challenge, influence, and drive change effectively.

  • Demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit and a solutions-oriented mindset to challenge the status quo appropriately.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.

  • Strategic thinking with the ability to analyze data and trends.

Desirable for the role

  • Portfolio management experience

  • High grades in Bachelor's degree in natural sciences

  • Sales leadership experience
