Typical Accountabilities

[ Market Access & Pricing Strategy ​]

  • Develop and implement strategies and innovative approaches to guide interactions with the government, industry and healthcare partners that will drive optimal access and reimbursement to AstraZeneca products
  • Formulate market access & pricing strategy, and contractual pathway required to optimize AstraZeneca’s product positioning and develop relevant pricing and contracting activities
  • Oversee the development and execution of affordability and accessibility patient support programs or out of pocket (OOP) strategy in accordance with local compliance, legal and regulatory guidelines, as well as the business and brand strategy
  • Leads the exploration for and evaluation of new product pipeline of potential market access & pricing and contracting strategies and their integration into AZ business

[Operational Excellence]

  • Establish the company objectives, strategies, and plans; coordinate, monitor and evaluate business activities so that these strategies and objectives are established in alignment with the corporate vision to achieve profitable operations for the company
  • Lead pricing negotiations with HIRA and NHIS; secure timely, commercially optimal reimbursement listings and price agreements, including through innovative contracting mechanisms
  • Maintain accurate assessments of competitors’ products that affect pricing for individual brands and overall industry
  • Identify growth and potential business opportunities in existing lines of the business and formulate plans for implementation
  • Champion evidence generation and value communication; develop compelling HEOR, RWE, and budget impact models to support HTA submissions and payer negotiations
  • Ensure a culture of ethics, integrity, and compliance is embedded in all business practices alongside full accountability for effective oversight and transparent upward reporting of compliance status in partnership with Global Compliance

[External affairs & Stakeholder management]

  • Lead market access function, and collaborate as a key member/player of the CLT
  • Stakeholder management: Establish and maintain excellent relationships and communication with key governmental, legislative and public policy makers, influencers, reimbursement authorities and key decision makers for patient access, while maintaining AstraZeneca as payer/Government partner of choice
  • Establish and provide input/escalation to relevant functions in local/Global/International on market access matters

[Payor Policy]

  • Monitors environment and practices for shifts in trends or behaviours, interpret likely impact and suggest appropriate risk mitigation plan
  • Collaborate closely with Corporate Affairs on engagements with Korea health authorities to advance AstraZeneca’s payer policy shaping agenda, including increasing willingness to pay thresholds, implementing IVS (example: IBP, WAP, MYMI etc) and reforms that accelerate reimbursement for rare diseases, severe/refectory and hard to treat diseases

[People management]

  • Hire, develop and retain top talents by ensuring discipline in talent development and succession planning implementation (reduce attrition rates to benchmark industry average)

[ Leadership & Organisational Impact ​]

  • Lead, coach, and develop a multidisciplinary team of ~13 direct and indirect reports across Market Access and HEOR; foster a high-performance, inclusive culture.
  • Serve as a member of the Country Leadership Team (CLT); contribute to enterprise-wide strategy, cross-functional governance, and annual business planning.
  • Champion AstraZeneca's ethics and compliance standards in all pricing and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • Act as Korea's primary interface with above market Market Access communities; represent local needs and insights in global strategy forums.

Essential Qualifications

[Education]

  • A degree in Pharmacy (preferred) or other related sciences

[Work Experiences]

  • 15+ years in relevant areas 
  • Track record of successful gaining of product reimbursement inclusions in respective territory
  • Proven experience in payor engagement in respective territory
  • Prior experience at a senior cross-functional or Country Leadership level

[Knowledge and Skills]

  • Expertise in Korea's pricing and reimbursement frameworks, including new policies under newly introduced pricing reform
  • Strategic and analytical mindset: ability to translate health policy shifts into actionable business strategy
  • Exceptional internal/external stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and communication skills
  • Professional skills/competencies as leadership, people development, crisis/change management, communication, negotiation, decision making, and in-depth understanding of health authorities and payor policy perspectives
  • Ethics – maintain high standards including commitments to local regulations and AstraZeneca values, policies and principles.

[Advanced Education]

  • Post Graduate Certification, MPH, MSc or PhD in Health Economics, Public Health, Pharmacy

[Technical Expertise]

  • Expertise in HEOR methodology: economic modelling, budget impact analysis, systematic review, or RWE
  • Familiarity with International IRP framework, HTA systems and alternative access pathways
  • Regional/Global Market access & pricing experience
