Market Access Director (CAMCAR)

The Market Access Director plays a pivotal leadership role within the organization, guiding both the Market Access team and cross‑functional partners to shape the payer environment and maximize access to AstraZeneca’s life‑changing medicines. This role leads the development and execution of comprehensive access strategies—from early planning through optimized post‑launch execution—ensuring patients receive timely access to innovative therapies.
As an active member of the Senior Management Team (SMT), the MA Director contributes to long‑, medium‑, and short‑term strategic planning for priority brands and key accounts, co‑creating a culture centered on innovation, accountability, collaboration, and AstraZeneca’s core values. This role partners closely with Medical, Commercial, Marketing, Corporate Affairs, Finance, Legal, and Regional/Global Access teams to ensure alignment, compliant execution, and strategic impact.
The MA Director is directly accountable for access outcomes of prioritized brands across the CAMCAR markets through strong payer insights, tailored value propositions, robust evidence strategies, innovative pricing models, and clear cross‑functional governance.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field; a graduate degree in health, health economics, and/or pharmaco‑economics is highly valued.
- 5–10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in CAMCAR markets in one or more of the following: Market Access, Marketing, Medical, Pricing/Commercial.
- Deep understanding of CAMCAR payer landscape, health policy, and patient/access journeys for priority therapeutic areas.
- Fluent written and oral English.
- Strong strategic thinking and analytical capabilities.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross‑functional, matrixed environments.
- Leadership experience in Oncology Access.
- Project management experience.
- Strong digital competencies (Teams, Copilot, ChatGPT, PowerPoint, Power BI).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Market Access Leadership
- Define short‑, medium‑, and long‑term cross‑functional access strategies for prioritized brands and accounts.
- Maintain up-to-date understanding of payer landscapes, health system dynamics, and evolving policies and regulations.
- Lead early shaping of the access environment by identifying opportunities, gaps, and payer needs to inform clinical and economic evidence strategies.
Payer Engagement & Value Proposition Development
- Build tailored payer value propositions, including innovative payment models, based on deep payer understanding and access pathway mapping.
- Collaborate with global and regional Market Access teams to adapt global tools and resources to local requirements.
- Develop high-quality, locally relevant dossiers and lead negotiations for listing, formulary inclusion, and reimbursement.
Access Execution & Negotiation
- Lead integrated negotiation strategies with Medical, Pricing, Corporate Affairs, Legal, and Regulatory to ensure successful submissions.
- Address payer requests, objections, and evidence gaps through rapid, coordinated cross‑functional solutions.
- Ensure timely and accurate visibility into access outcomes for supply forecasting and operational execution.
External Affairs & Policy Shaping
- Work closely with Corporate Affairs and Medical to strengthen AstraZeneca’s leadership and reputation across the healthcare ecosystem.
- Identify and build strategic external partnerships that enable broader patient access and long‑term sustainability.
Data, Insights & Excellence in Execution
- Build an internal access knowledge base and lead analytics approaches to continuously improve access strategy and field execution.
- Optimize resource allocation across Market Access and related activities to maximize impact and efficiency.
People Leadership
- Lead and inspire the Market Access team, setting clear goals and performance standards.
- Provide ongoing coaching, delegation, and capability development in technical, strategic, and field-based competencies.
- Foster a high‑performing, collaborative, and accountable culture aligned with AstraZeneca values.
Governance, Compliance & AZ Values
- Ensure all Market Access activities comply with company policies, local regulations, and ethical standards.
