Associate Scientist II, Pilot Plant Operations
This is what you will do:
The Associate Scientistis responsible forperforming assigned tasks to support the operational scale up of non-GMP Pilot-scale manufacturing processes for Alexion’s biotherapeutic candidates. The Associate Scientist will work routinely in collaboration with other members of Pilot Plant Operationsand othergroups in Product Development and Clinical Supply organization.
You willbe responsible for:
Support of pilot scale operations at up to 500L bioreactor scale of cellculture andcorresponding downstream purification process:
Assistingin general facility and operational support, including maintenance of lab and pilot scale equipment, equipment and partscleaning, solutionmaking, set up and clean-up activities, and hands on support of upstream and downstream operations as needed during manufacturing runs.
Documenting results in electronic notebooks and/or paper forms
Availability during standard working hours is expected as well as occasional afterhours,shift work or weekend work as may be necessary.
You will need to have:
BS degree in Biochemistry, Chemistry, ChemicalEngineering,or related scientific discipline from an accredited university, with 1 - 2years’ experienceor MS with0–1-yearexperience.
Proficiencyin following various laboratory and manufacturing operating and safety procedures isrequired.
Experience withbiologicsmanufacturing or research with mammalian cell culture and/or protein purification.
Proficiencywith basic laboratory skills (i.e.: pipetting/volumetric measurements, weighing components, pH/conductivity measurements)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent organizational skills
Ability to perform tasks accurately andreproducibly.
Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision todelivertasks withinestablishedtimelines.
Proficiencywith MS Office programs, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Technicalexpertise: Conductsassigned routine tasks in thescale up areawith limited supervision,operationalexperiencewith Pilot Scale bioreactors, and/or chromatography skids is a plus.
Strategic ability: Regularlyinteractswith peers withinsamefunctionalgroup.
Ownership: Works with supervisorand coworkersto ensure assigned tasks are completed, Understands/acts on priority of assigned tasks under direct supervision
Demonstratesabilityto manageaspectsof a technical project.
