Program Management Director, Oncology R&D (ORD)

Hybrid Work- on average 3 days/week from office

Minimum 1 day from our Mississauga office and 2 days from our Mississauga or Downtown office

Summary:

This role sits within the Project Management Office (PMO) which is an Enabling Unit within the Oncology Research & Development Chief Operating Office.

You will be responsible for providing Project Management and leadership to transformation projects and working with our Senior Director, Program Management, Business leads and Sponsors to lead the business on complex programmes.

Typical Accountabilities:

For definition, a program is a large transformation change initiative, which has a significant impact on the business and the way that it runs, changing ways of working for a large number of stakeholders.  It is usually complex and has multiple workstreams.   

  • Lead the business in creating a business case for a new Program.

  • Lead projects or multiple program workstream’s deliverables.

  • Handle program budget including raising any issues to the Business Lead and Program Lead.

  • Identify, assess, and monitor dependencies from other programs to ensure successful delivery of project outcomes.

  • Running the scoping and subsequent scope control process including documenting scope change and the impact on the program.

  • Lead other project managers in handling program risks and issues, including with appropriate escalation.

  • Collaborate with business and change partners on managing the impact of program deliverables to AZ staff to ensure that they can be delivered and embraced.

  • Identify process changes required from the program and work with business and Lean & training partners to ensure processes are updated and those who need it are adequately trained in the changes.

  • Lead ‘Lessons Learned’ activities to ensure continuous learning and improvement is applied to the Project or ORD PMO Service Delivery.

  • Ensure service delivery is to a high standard and appropriate quality checks are implemented.

  • Responsible for ensuring that key performance indicators (KPIs) and monitoring are in place so that Program benefits can be supervised and raised if off target.

Stakeholder and Functional Complexity

  • Work with senior stakeholders and is able to successfully influence with and without authority.

  • Help with crafting key messages and reporting for meetings like the Steer Co. Meetings.

  • Where there are sophisticated workstreams or more than 5 workstreams, liaise with the Project managers to support the Senior Director, Program Management or Business Lead.

  • Manage dependency relationships between other programmes, escalating where needed to the Programme lead.

Autonomy

  • Self-awareness of own development needs and works with line manager to create development plan.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree (or relevant equivalent qualification) in life sciences

  • 8-10 years of project management experience

  • Experience working on non-molecular projects

  • Experience working in a fast-paced, global Pharmaceutical or Healthcare environment, successfully running and implementing transformation projects.

  • Understanding of how to deliver large change projects, to enable effective partnership with the Change Management team.

  • Experience with project management delivery standard and methodologies including realizing business benefits.

  • Expertise in Standards and good practice when running projects, with a desire to help drive continuous improvement.

  • Business sense to be able to lead crafting a business case for a senior stakeholder.

  • Is proactive, entrepreneurial, and finds opportunities

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum supervision.

  • Experience working with Smart Sheets

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a consulting firm

  • MBA degree

  • Program Management certification (AZ uses PMI’s PgMP certifications)

  • Lean Problem-Solving skills or equivalent
