Director, HCP Engagement Operations
Introduction to role
The Director, HCP Engagement Operations is a critical member of Alexion’s Business Operations team with accountability to lead and manage all HCP Engagement Operations, including compliant creation, facilitation, and management of speaker bureau programming, regional sponsorships, and Advisory Boards. This role will be responsible for providing strategic direction and successful execution of all HCP professional engagements and activities in support of the US commercial team. In addition, this person will provide strategic support to the business units and brand teams for HCP engagements, Congresses, Sponsorships, in addition to cross-functional coordination with global and other US partners. This is an office-based role with direct leadership of 5+ office-based employees. The expectation for this role is to be in the office a minimum of 3 days per week, on average.
Accountabilities
• Lead annual needs assessment (ANA) process in partnership with brand teams to define educational need within each disease state; facilitate annual review with senior leadership; facilitate speaker identification, selection, cultivation, and manage agency of record documentation
• Direct day-to-day management and ongoing development for a 5+ person team spread across multiple geographies
• Serve as a centralized Commercial resource for the creation of HCP Engagement policy documentation to inform and support brand strategy and launch preparation
• Own all operational aspects of HCP Engagements, ensuring proper compliance of speaker bureau creation, training, execution, budget tracking, and program closeout across
• Develop and build relationships with key HCP engagement stakeholders such as MSLs, TLLs and brand teams in each indication
• Own day-to-day management of external partners and ensure their role in HCP Engagement (e.g., contracting, logistics, payment, etc.) is executed flawlessly
• Support compliance, legal, regulatory, and/or other internal functions as needs arise (e.g., internal/external audits, policy creation, etc.)
• Partner cross-functionally to identify opportunities to streamline HCP Engagement Operations through standardized processes, innovative technology and/or centralized vendors
• Play an active role in leading the broader Business Operations & Commercial Effectiveness team, driving an inclusive and Speak-Up culture.
Essential Skills/Experience
• Minimum of 10 years of biopharmaceutical experience with at least 5 years in commercial operations (e.g., marketing operations, HCP Engagement), Quality, regulatory or compliance functions
• Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., business, quality, regulatory, marketing, operations, etc.)
• Ability to travel up to 25% of the time, including internationally within North America (e.g., 3 days mid-week once per month between Alexion’s Boston, New Haven, and/or Mississauga, Ontario, Canada sites)
• Demonstrated strategic capabilities and ability to work effectively in complex and rapidly changing environments
• Strong knowledge of current healthcare compliance including compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and pharmaceutical industry codes
• Demonstrated experience managing complex operations in a highly regulated and regularly audited environment
• Demonstrated experience in creating, training, deploying, and managing policies for field-based and/or headquarters employees
• Proven success in choosing, onboarding, and managing external strategic vendors / partners
• Strong project and process management skills, along with the ability to work on multiple tasks, and to prioritize effectively
• The duties of this role are generally conducted in an office environment. As is typical of an office-based role, employees must be able, with or without an accommodation to use a computer; engage in communications via phone, video, and electronic messaging; engage in problem solving and non-linear thought, analysis, and dialogue; collaborate with others; maintain general availability during standard business hours
Desirable Skills/Experience
• MBA Preferred
• Exposure to partnering with compliance, legal, and/or regulatory functions to build, deploy, and maintain policies
• Demonstrated track record of commercial success in positions with progressive responsibilities
• Strong analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative
• Experience managing a team located across multiple sites / geographies
