Associate Director, Commercial Data Operations

At Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease, we are seeking an Associate Director, Commercial Data Operations Lead to drive the development and execution of commercial data strategies. This pivotal role ensures that high-quality data assets are onboarded and maintained, supporting both reporting and advanced analytics. You'll be at the heart of managing essential commercial data, making it actionable for strategic and daily decision-making in our dynamic environment.
Accountabilities:
Commercial Data Strategy:
• Develop and implement cohesive data strategies that support Alexion’s commercial objectives in rare diseases, ensuring alignment with key business priorities.
Data Architecture:
• Design and maintain the architecture of commercial data systems, ensuring scalability, flexibility, and security. Develop and maintain data models, data flow diagrams, and documentation to support integration and transformation of complex data sources. Establish standards for metadata management, data lineage, and data governance to ensure reliable and consistent information across the organization.
Onboarding and Integration of Data Assets:
• Lead and coordinate the onboarding of new internal and external data assets, ensuring seamless integration into existing platforms and accessibility for reporting and data science teams.
Day-to-Day Data Operations:
• Oversee, manage, and optimize day-to-day data operations, maintaining the efficiency and quality of data pipelines, repositories, and systems so that validated and reliable data is consistently available for commercial reporting and advanced analytics.
Data Management & Compliance:
• Establish and uphold best practices for data management, maintaining high standards of data quality, integrity, and compliance with industry regulations such as GDPR, HIPAA, and Canadian privacy legislation.
Analytics & Reporting Support:
• Direct analysis of commercial data to uncover trends, patterns, and strategic insights. Ensure timely, accurate delivery of data for decision support across sales, marketing, market access, and medical affairs functions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders—including Insights, Reporting, Patient Services, Market Access, IT, and Data Science teams—to align on data strategy, integration needs, and support for ongoing business initiatives.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement:
• Promote ongoing improvement and innovation in data operations by implementing new methodologies and technologies that enhance efficiency, data accessibility, and business impact.
Technology and Innovation:
• Stay abreast of developments in data analytics and technology, recommending new tools and methodologies as appropriate. Drive innovation by exploring new data sources and analytical techniques.
Essential Skills/Experience:
• 8–10 years of experience in commercial data operations in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, ideally within rare diseases or specialty medicine.
• Demonstrated experience as a Data Architect, including onboarding, managing, and optimizing data assets for commercial applications and analytics.
• Proficiency with data management platforms, CRM systems, data integration tools, and commercial operations.
• Advanced skills in SQL and Python, applied to analytics, data processing, and database management.
• Well-versed in data visualization technologies, including Power BI, Qlik, Tableau, or comparable platforms.
• Experienced in managing cloud-based data warehouses such as snowflake, redshift, or similar.
• Strong knowledge of healthcare compliance, privacy, and data security standards, with specific familiarity with US data laws preferred.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to influence and partner effectively across cross-functional teams.
• Experience in rare disease or specialty medicine markets is highly preferred.
• Knowledge of Veeva CRM data model in pharmaceutical settings, Patient Hub Data, Syndicated Claims data (IQVIA LAAD, Symphony, Specialty Pharmacy/Specialty Distribution) model highly preferred.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
• Experience working in the pharma or biotech sectors, preferably working within or with the Commercial team.
