Responsibilities

Job ID R-263302 Date posted 11/03/2026 Job Title: Learning and Capability Development Associate Director – EUCAN

Introduction to role:

Are you ready to build a unified capability engine across EU7 markets that elevates performance and accelerates impact for people living with cancer? Based in Madrid, you will turn fragmented, market-by-market activity into a shared, scalable model that equips our business, medical, marketing and field teams to deliver with speed and consistency.

In this role, you will define a common capability vision for the EUCAN region and make it real—prioritising what matters, reducing duplication, and directing resources to the highest-value opportunities. From AI literacy and digital fluency to new ways of working, you will champion future-ready skills that help teams make faster, smarter decisions and improve the patient experience.

You will work side by side with market Capability Managers and global partners to translate local insights into regional solutions, then guide adoption and measure impact. How will you align diverse stakeholders, spark collaboration and turn insight into measurable behavior change?

This role is and must be based in Madrid, Spain.

Accountabilities:

- Regional Capability Vision: Develop and lead a compelling EUCAN capability vision, strategy and implementation plan aligned to Oncology priorities and evolving market needs.

- Market Insight Consolidation: Aggregate capability needs and gaps across EU7 markets, identify common priorities and required local adaptations, and convert them into a clear, prioritised regional capability agenda.

- Governance and Ways of Working: Establish effective governance and operating rhythms that connect regional and market capability teams for fast, coordinated delivery.

- Community Building: Create a strong EUCAN capability community that enables collaboration, knowledge exchange and continuous improvement; partner closely with market Capability Managers to align priorities, share best practice and drive consistent implementation.

- Program Design and Delivery: Lead the design and delivery of scalable, innovative capability programs for business, customer-facing and field force teams that improve performance and speed to impact.

- Innovation in Learning: Identify and embed modern learning approaches, tools and technologies to increase accessibility, personalisation and measurable outcomes.

- Global Collaboration: Work with global learning partners to leverage and adapt existing materials and expertise, avoiding rework and accelerating time to value.

- Future-Ready Roles and Skills: Support the evolution of roles and skill profiles toward capabilities needed for the future organization, with robust governance, quality and compliance.

- Impact Measurement: Define measures of success and use data and feedback to track adoption, application, behavioural change and business impact, then iterate for continuous improvement.

Essential Skills/Experience:

- Experience leading strategic learning, capability development or organizational development initiatives across multiple markets or business units.

- Proven ability to translate business and market needs into a clear capability strategy and implementation plan.

- Experience working through influence in a complex, matrixed and geographically diverse organization.

- Proven record in leading high-impact, cross-functional initiatives that deliver measurable business outcomes.

- Demonstrate scientific understanding with the ability to interpret and apply clinical fundamentals. (Oncology or specialty care desirable)

- Experience with digital learning, learning technologies and innovative development approaches.

- Strong stakeholder engagement, facilitation, communication, coaching and influencing skills.

- Experience in change management and implementing new ways of working.

- Strategic and creative thinker with the ability to convert vision into practical delivery.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

- Experience in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, healthcare or life sciences, preferably Oncology.

- Experience working across European or international markets with market-level capability teams.

- Sales, marketing or medical experience in pharmaceuticals

- Experience developing capabilities for customer-facing or field force populations.

- Experience with AI literacy, digital capabilities, future-of-work programmes or omnichannel customer engagement.

When we put unexpected teams in the same room, we unleash bold thinking with the power to inspire life-changing medicines. In-person working gives us the platform we need to connect, work at pace and challenge perceptions. That's why we work, on average, a minimum of three days per week from the office. But that doesn't mean we're not flexible. We balance the expectation of being in the office while respecting individual flexibility. Join us in our unique and ambitious world.

Why AstraZeneca:

We are united by a bold ambition to change how cancer is treated, pairing cutting-edge science with rapid, decisive execution to bring new options to patients sooner. Here, you will shape a high-growth capability agenda with access to advanced technology, data and AI, and a pipeline that demands excellence in launch and commercial effectiveness. You will collaborate with diverse experts who challenge assumptions and learn fast together, in an environment that values kindness alongside ambition. Your leadership will amplify the impact of our medicines by equipping teams across EU7 markets to deliver consistent, meaningful outcomes for patients and healthcare systems.
