About the role
Axial is a multi-year transformation programme that supports AstraZeneca’s 2030 Bold Ambition. Powered by SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Technology Platform, Axial provides the backbone for innovation, growth, and performance. As a Senior Project Manager, you will lead projects that bring Clinical Supply onto the SAP S/4HANA platform. You will report to the program lead and work closely with the Clinical Supply IT Business Partner to ensure seamless delivery.
You will manage end-to-end supply chain processes, ideally with experience in clinical stages from study setup through to patient dispensing. This role requires coordinating activities across multiple system integration partners and managing third-party vendors for contract manufacturing andlogistics.
PM Role requirements
Project Leadership:Drive end-to-end projects with varying degrees of complexity, managing multiple workstreams in parallel across global domains like Operations, Finance, and R&D.
Financial Stewardship:Manage, control, and report project budgets accurately,maintainingfinancial health even during periods of change.
Risk Management:Proactivelyidentifyand mitigate risks and issues, ensuring clear and concise reporting to senior stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement:Build strong partnerships across Business and Technology functions to ensure project alignment.
Methodology & Compliance:Maintainhigh standardsof validation and compliance documentation using both Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
The role and core accountabilities
Deliver comprehensive project plans including resource allocation, costs, roles, and quality metrics as defined by our IT Project Management Methodology.
Coordinate the status and delivery of project workstreams,identifyingand managing dependencies across the wider portfolio.
Foster a collaborative and positive team environment that promotes knowledge sharing and effective teamwork.
Manage changes to project scope, ensuring all impacts are approved and communicated to review boards and collaborators.
Develop service transition plans to ensure controlled hand-over into support and maintenance.
Establish program governance and lead Decision Point reviews tomaintainrigorous quality standards.
Essential skills,experienceand qualifications
Significant experienceleading end-to-end programs within global, matrixed teams.
Degree-level education or equivalent professional experience in a technical or business field.
Clear and inclusive communication skills, with a proven ability to resolve conflict and build trust.
Practical experience with Agile and Waterfall frameworks, including familiarity with JIRA and automated testing tools.
Strong background in budget and supplier management within validated environments (GxPand SOX).
A proactive and curious mindset that drives continuous improvement and follows AZ Values and Behaviours.
Desirable skills,experienceand qualifications
Project or programme management certifications (e.g., PMP, Prince2).
Experience in Biopharma or Life Sciences, particularly within Operations or Clinical Supply Chains.
Proven ability to work effectively across different countries and cultures.
