The Role:
As the Facilities Technician reporting into the Director, Site Strategy & Engagement (Site Operations) the position will be responsible for the maintenance of Fusion’s GMP and non‑GMP areas, manufacturing, clean room operations, laboratory, warehouse and office areas. This includes the facility equipment, systems and utilities to ensure that a safe and optimal environment is always maintained. In this function, the Facilities Technician will work closely with a multi-functional team including the Production team, IT, laboratory, external contractors, SHE, McMaster Facilities and Quality Control. The position is responsible for conducting all aspects of facility equipment operation, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and emergency repairs and provide support to operations for equipment repairs / maintenance. This position, based in Hamilton, ON, has a requirement to support a 24/7 on call as needed. Regular shift is Monday to Friday day shift. After hours on-call shifts as required per business needs.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain reliable operation of GMP and non‑GMP facility systems including HVAC, compressed air, medical gas tank farms, RO/UPS/chilled water systems, boilers, steam systems, fume hoods, BSC, humidifiers, emergency generators, valves, pumps, door controls, exhaust fans and electrical systems.
- Ensure reliable environmental conditions and utilities across all facility areas, document system status, and report abnormalities.
- Oversee maintenance of building automation systems (BAS) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Plan and complete corrective and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Troubleshoot and repair building systems and facilities issues in collaboration with internal technicians and external contractors.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procure parts as needed to ensure equipment uptime.
- Maintain GMP documentation standards in logbooks, change controls, QA supporting documents, work orders, drawings, work orders, CMMS and checklists etc.
- Ensure all safeguards, safety standards, and compliance requirements are met during operation and servicing of equipment.
- Lead installations, rebuilds, upgrades, and modifications to equipment and facility infrastructure.
- Identify and implement improvements to facility systems, maintenance processes, and operational reliability.
- Work closely with multi-functional teams and build positive relationships with staff, stakeholders, landlords, and service providers, including production, quality assurance, and engineering, to support manufacturing objectives.
- Coordinate with contractors and technicians to ensure systems remain compliant, efficient, and operational 24/7.
- Work closely with Planning & Scheduling, Materials Management, Quality Systems, Project Management, and SHE teams. Act as Fire Warden and participate as an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee.
- Physical requirements - ability to lift weight up to 22 kg (50 lbs.).
- Other duties assigned.
Qualifications:
- Technical diploma in mechanical, HVAC or relevant technical stream combined with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in facilities maintenance within a pharmaceutical, food manufacturing, or similar GMP setting is required.
- 3rd Class Operating Engineer’s Certificate or 4th Class Certificate with relevant steam experience preferred.
- In-depth understanding of GMP/cGMP requirements and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical and mechanical drawings. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Previous experience working with CMMS and BAS systems is required.
- Experience in personal computers with preference given to a Windows 365 operating system, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams, and using SAP.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 75,493.60 to 99,085.35.AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues. The range provided in this posting represents an offer pay range used in a majority of situations.
