Engineering Intern - Summer 2026
Location: Hamilton, Ontario
Onsite 5 days a week
Role Summary:
We are seeking students in Science, Technology and Engineering for a full-time, 4 Month internship from May to August 2026.
The intern will be an integrated member of the Process Engineering department within the Fusion Pharmaceuticals division, contributing to the execution of engineering and technical projects to enable the creation and expansion of radioconjugates, used in the treatment of cancer.
Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
- Equipment and automation support: Assist with routine checks, calibration coordination, and troubleshooting of unit operations and associated automation/data acquisition systems.
- Process improvement projects: Support continuous improvement and process robustness initiatives (e.g., cycle time reduction, right-first-time, error-proofing) using basic Lean/Six Sigma tools.
- Documentation and GMP records: Author or revise controlled documents (SOPs, batch records, logbooks) under guidance; ensure accurate, timely entry of production data in accordance with GDP.
- Tech transfer and change execution: Contribute to small-scale trials, protocol execution, and change control documentation for process changes and technology transfer activities.
Qualifications:
- Education: Currently enrolled in a undergraduate program in Science, Technology, Engineering, or related discipline
- Hands-On skills: Proficiency with basic tools eg. Screwdrivers, wrenches, measurement tools, digital multimeters.
- Data skills: Proficiency in machine learning and applications of AI.
- GMP awareness: Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Documentation Practices; prior regulated industry exposure (pharma, medical devices, food) is an asset.
- Technical communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills; experience drafting technical notes, procedures, or lab reports with attention to detail and traceability.
- Problem-solving mindset: Demonstrated ability to structure problems, analyze root causes and propose practical solutions with follow-through.
- Teamwork and ownership: Comfortable working cross-functionally with other departments; proactive, organized, and able to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Safety focus: Commitment to a strong safety culture; willingness to learn and comply with radiation safety, aseptic handling, and EHS requirements. Experience working in a nuclear laboratory is an asset.
- Candidates must have an expected graduation date after August 2026.
- Available to work full-time for duration of the internship

What to Expect:
This role is a 4-month paid contract position, which starts in May 2026, and there is an option to extend to 8-months. Our position will be based in Hamilton Fusion site and be 5-days on site.
As part of this work, you will be qualified as a Nuclear Energy Worker to enable work within our Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission-licensed nuclear facilities.

Annual base salary for this position ranges from 42,908.00 to 56,316.75.AstraZeneca is committed to providing fair and equitable compensation opportunities to all colleagues.
