Clinical Procurement Business Partner – R&D Global Procurement

Location Gothenburg, Västra Götaland County, Sweden Job ID R-249664 Date posted 07/04/2026

At AstraZeneca, we’re dedicated to being a Great Place to Work. Where you are empowered to push the boundaries of science, challenge convention and unleash your entrepreneurial spirit. To embrace differences and take bold actions to drive the change needed to meet global healthcare and sustainability challenges.

We can now offer an exciting opportunity to partner with AstraZeneca’s R&D Therapy Areas to drive their research and development efforts forward to develop medicines for patients.

If you’re energized by complex problem‑solving, value creation, and partnering across R&D to bring new medicines to patients faster, this role offers a unique platform to lead.

The role is placed at our dynamic R&D site in Gothenburg.

Your role
In this pivotal role, you’ll be the dedicated, therapy area–aligned business partner to Clinical Operations within R&D Global Procurement - translating clinical and operational needs into procurement strategies that accelerate delivery, unlock value, and uphold the highest standards.

You’ll bring together your fluency in clinical trial execution with deep procurement expertise to drive cross‑functional alignment, anticipate needs at both therapy area and programme levels, and enable proactive planning that delivers speed, savings, and sustainability—without compromising quality.

You’ll work in strong collaboration with the Study Procurement Partner to create a seamless bridge from early programme shaping to operational execution, ensuring continuity, transparency, and impact at every stage.

Key Accountabilities

  • Therapy Area leadership: Serve as the central point of contact for assigned therapy areas, engaging in portfolio-level discussions to surface outsourcing demand early and align on priorities.
  • Strategic demand planning: Translate therapy area strategies, clinical plans, and operational roadmaps into forward‑looking procurement insights and early‑stage demand forecasts to inform Procurement Category Teams’ planning.
  • Vendor strategy guidance: Advise Clinical Operations programme teams on the vendor landscape, championing the use of preferred, sustainable suppliers aligned to Category Strategy where appropriate during vendor strategy implementation.
  • Opportunity and gap identification: Spot sourcing gaps, unmet business needs, and cross‑category opportunities to shape category strategies and refresh cycles—driving speed, savings, and sustainability without compromising quality.
  • Issue escalation and resolution: Escalate to Procurement Category Managers and R&D Alliance Management when sourcing strategies or suppliers do not meet clinical and operational requirements, and partner to course‑correct.
  • Cross‑functional representation: Represent R&D Global Procurement in cross-functional initiatives that span multiple procurement categories, ensuring alignment and delivery of shared outcomes.
  • Enterprise coordination: Coordinate with R&D enabling functions (e.g., Alliance Management, Global Clinical Solutions) to align support models, ensure cohesive engagement, and close known gaps where no dedicated business partner exists.
  • Model and process improvement: Shape, validate, and refine procurement engagement models, processes, and messaging through close partnership with stakeholders.
  • Seamless TA-to-study handover: Collaborate closely with the TA Study Procurement Partner to ensure a smooth transition from early TA programme planning into study start‑up and maintenance.
  • Flexible contribution: Support ad‑hoc projects and priorities as required to meet evolving business needs.

Essential Requirements - Education and Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in business, life sciences, or a related field is a plus.
  • Industry experience: Minimum 8+ years in procurement, clinical operations, or related functions with a strong grasp of clinical trial planning and execution.
  • Demand and vendor expertise: Hands-on experience in demand planning, vendor strategy, or vendor management within the clinical trials space.
  • Category and supplier management: Strong understanding of category management, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration frameworks.
  • Matrix ways of working: Proven success operating in matrix organizations, ideally within pharmaceutical or life sciences settings.
  • Stakeholder influence: Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders and translate operational needs into actionable procurement opportunities.
  • Communication and facilitation: Excellent communication, facilitation, and strategic influencing skills, with the ability to drive alignment across diverse teams.
  • Project and change leadership: Proficiency in project management and change management, delivering outcomes across complex initiatives.
  • Analytical clarity: Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, compelling recommendations and present with confidence.
  • Regulatory knowledge: Strong knowledge of ICH GCP and related guidelines governing clinical trials.
