Associate Director – AstraZeneca Global Clinical Procurement, Functional Service Provider

Business area
As part of Global Procurement, the R&D Procurement (RDP) Clinical Procurement team supports both Oncology and Biopharma in delivering their clinical trial pipelines by ensuring all sourcing arrangements are aligned to company and therapeutic area strategies.
Within Clinical Procurement, there are two key teams supporting clinical trials: Full Service Outsourcing (FSO) for outsourced studies and Functional Service Providers (FSP) for internally led studies. These teams manage supplier relationships at both an operational and strategic level to promote successful service delivery and drive value creation through our external partners.
The role is based at our site in Gothenburg.
What you´ll do
This role focuses on developing and deploying global FSP category strategies and initiatives, leading major supplier relationships, building stronger relationships with stakeholder groups through effective business partnering, and ensuring that supporting process improvement and procurement activities deliver the expected business value.
In this role, you will be responsible for developing long-term strategic plans for an entire spend category within the Clinical Procurement FSP team. You will manage stakeholder and supplier relationships to ensure category strategies are closely aligned to current and future business needs, and that the supply base can support these strategies.
You will lead project initiatives linked to category strategies to deliver value to the business, implement sustainability initiatives with vendors, and lead complex contractual and commercial negotiations. Working alongside key stakeholders, you will ensure a data-driven approach to category management and high-quality analytics to deliver insights, capabilities, and results.
Key Accountabilities
- Serve as primary liaison between Oncology and Biopharma Clinical Operations and Global Procurement for your category
- Lead procurement project management for the deployment of key initiatives within your category including AI30 and Sustainability
- Establish procurement governance framework aligned with Global Procurement Must Wins
- Build stakeholder aligned category strategies to meet business needs and create value
- Drive process standardisation and capability building across the category
- Implement procurement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives
EssentialRequirements – Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- 5+ years of experience in a procurement environment
- Strong project management expertise and analytical skills
- Deep knowledge of procurement processes: sourcing methodologies, contract management, supplier performance management, risk mitigation
- Experience implementing procurement governance frameworks and driving organisational change
- Track record building capability through training, process improvement, and change management
- Excellent stakeholder management skills across all organisational levels, ability to influence others
- Significant negotiation experience
- Experience in biotech/pharma procurement and clinical trials
- Familiarity with procurement technology platforms (SAP, Coupa) and AI/automation tools
