The Oncology Outcomes Research (O2R) team is composed of highly functioning individuals with exceptional strategic, technical and communication skills.  The team is a key member of the Evidence Generation to Publication Organization within Oncology Medical Affairs and develops strategy for and delivers impactful real world, economic and patient reported research for the AZ oncology portfolio for the global and US organizations.  

The mission of the team is to focus on identifying, quantifying and communicating the medical value proposition of molecules in the oncology portfolio.  The team is a key thought partner for the tumor leads and an important member of the Global & US Medical Team.  The deliverables from this team have a significant impact on the success of the global & US medical strategy.   

There are 5 tumor teams in Oncology Outcomes Research: Lung, Breast, GU/Gyn, GI/Other and Hematology.  Each Tumor Lead is responsible for delivering strategy and tactics for global and US medical affairs teams.    

Key Stakeholders for the Tumor Lead include  Medical Tumor Leads in Global Medical Affairs, US Medical Affairs , Regional Medical Affairs (EUCAN and International) and Global and US Market Access and Pricing teams. 

This role reports to the Head, Executive Director, Oncology Outcomes Research and will be responsible for developing and implementing health outcomes and real-world studies on a global and US market level. This person is also responsible for strategically communicating and influencing a diverse group of internal and external partners at a senior level. 

 The Tumor Lead will be responsible for leading a team of molecule/asset focused dynamic researchers, including managers of managers and delivering strategic plans and implementing projects to accomplish this mission. 

Main responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of the Global and US tumor evidence strategy including real world evidence, and other activities to assess, quantify and communicate the value proposition for AZ’s oncology portfolio  

  • Within the Medical Governance process, lead the Tumor Evidence Review Team (ERT) to ensure the scientific rigor of AZ sponsored research, overseeing approval of all study concepts, protocols and publications.

  • Oversee a team with responsibility to support the Global and US market.  The team will deliver both the strategy and technical execution of projects for that specific tumor.

  • Responsible for strategically communicating and influencing a diverse group of internal and external partners at the senior level in Medical Affairs, Commercial and R&D.

  • Proactive relationship and communications with key stakeholders who are their counterparts in Global Medical Affairs, US Medical Affairs, Regional Medical Affairs (EUCAN and International), Global and US Market Access and Pricing teams and other relevant cross-functional teams

  • Experienced manager who can coach and mentor researchers with diverse technical skills and enable them to deliver impactful and measurable results 

  • Coaches and mentors individuals at all career levels to help them grow in both soft and hard skills 

  • Oversee the development and execution of research plans for tumors and molecules.

  • Identifies efficiencies in research methodology and execution of projects including but not limited to real world research, claims database analyses, registries, comparative effectiveness research, patient preference analyses, modeling and literature reviews.    

Required Skills

  • 15 + years experience in the pharmaceutical industry

  • graduate degree  (MS, MPH, PhD)  in health economics (HE), epidemiology, outcomes research (OR) and/or related fields. 

  • In-depth expertise with research methods for real world research, HEOR projects including pharmacoepidemiologic models 

  • Scientific expertise in oncology with knowledge of different data sources

  • Proven ability with a track record of success in developing and leading teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong leadership and interpersonal skills   

  • Demonstrated expertise in analytical, judgment and problem-solving skills 

  • Travel-25%

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $249,185 to $373,778. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives—an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans.
