Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Lead the global medical strategy for Oncology brands across multiple indications within the tumour area.
  • Ensure alignment between tumour‑level and brand‑level strategies to maximise medical impact.
  • Serve as a core member of the Tumour Global Medical Senior Leadership Team, shaping tumour‑level strategy and priorities.

Medical Planning & Execution

  • Develop and oversee strategic medical plans ensuring robust financial and resource planning across global and in‑market medical teams.
  • Lead development and execution of asset‑specific tactical plans, including:
    • Evidence generation
    • Scientific communications
    • Global external expert engagement
    • Diagnostics strategy
    • Patient‑centric initiatives

Evidence & Insights

  • Define Real‑World Evidence (RWE) strategy and external Key Evidence Expert (KEE) engagement plans.
  • Ensure global and in‑market insights effectively inform product development, brand positioning, and launch readiness.

Cross‑Functional & External Collaboration

  • Partner closely with cross‑functional colleagues across Markets, OBU‑Medical, Oncology R&D, Global Marketing, Global Strategy, Regulatory Affairs, Payer and Health Outcomes, and other medical excellence groups.
  • Provide medical leadership for HA/IRB interactions and for GMA‑sponsored tumour/brand studies.
  • Represent AstraZeneca at global scientific events, congresses, and symposia.

Governance, Leadership & People Development

  • Serve as a medical representative on Global Product Teams and influence asset‑level strategic decision‑making.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders, including SET‑level executives.
  • Foster a culture of performance development, inclusion, and lifelong learning.
  • Ensure all medical and business activities comply with AZ policies and external regulations.

Education, Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Master’s degree in a scientific discipline or equivalent; MD strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of senior leadership experience in pharma, life sciences, clinical, academic, or medical affairs roles.
  • Strong understanding of drug development, medical branding, and evidence generation.
  • Proven ability to interpret and present complex clinical data.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross‑functional teams within a matrix environment.
  • Strong stakeholder management, situational leadership, and strategic influence skills.
  • Experience in financial/resource planning and prioritizing medical plans.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for scientific and commercial audiences.

Desirable

  • Experience in Oncology drug development (highly preferred).
  • Breast Cancer therapeutic experience.
  • Both global and country‑level launch experience.
  • Alliance management experience.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $206,827 to $310,240. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
