Advanced Level Data Engineer. Working under guidance of more Data Engineering Lead, the role will be involved in analysing requirements, implementing or testing components, as well as supporting IT applications enhancements, release and maintenance, leading the data engineering team which may require a close collaboration with third party suppliers.

The role will specialise in a particular area of Data Engineering typically around one or more Commercial Software as a Service systems.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are recruiting a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data, Analytics & AI group. As part of our transformational journey on Data & AI in Operations, we are taking the steps to advance our Operation Data Hub (ODH) to Data Mesh architecture. ODH exists to give all Operations units access to critical data and analytic tools at pace, accelerating their work on life saving medicines. The vision of ODH is also accelerating Operation’s data strategy of making our data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Re-useable (FAIR). This is being achieved through the creation of a distributed data architecture, management of our data and data products will sit at the heart of this.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will be part of a engineering team accountable for harvesting, storing, quality checking, transforming, and visualising Operations data, build out reusable data products, which users from Operations units can self-service for analytics and AI/ML workflows. You will also be providing ongoing Business-as-Usual support to ensure these data products evolving overtime to meet Operations business objectives.

It is our goal to create scalable solutions to support the development of valuable data products and address broad range of data use cases from Operations, including batch analytics based on data warehousing, data mart and Big Data stack, and emerging use cases on real-time analytics based on streaming.

Our technology is focused around the AWS stack, existing technical components include AWS, SAP HANA, SAP MDG, SAS DQ, Qlik Replicate, Qlik Sense, Power BI. Moving forward, we aim to consolidate our technology estate and roll out modern data engineering stack, such as: Snowflake, DBT, AWS Kinesis, AWS MWAA.

The core of our development and support team are based in Chennai. You will also work closely with the Enterprise Data & AI teams to demonstrate central Enterprise Data Platforms for Data Cataloguing, Master Data Management and Reference Data Management.

You will need a collaborative delivery approach to be successful. We prefer to use Agile but choose the appropriate approach for the project. So, experience of a variety of delivery management methodologies would come in useful.

You will need to have

8+ years overall IT industry experience.

  • Experience designing, implementing data products supporting bespoke analytics and AI applications 

  • Design, develop, and deploy production-grade scalable data products using container technologies like Docker and Kubernetes with a focus on data testing and validation 

  • Solid experience using data and compute related services in AWS such as AWS S3, EC2, ECS, ECR, MWAA and EMR.

  • Experience of data analysis – profiling, investigating, interpreting, and documenting data structures.

  • Experience with & knowledge in a broad base of data tools, ETL frameworks, monitoring and data technologies, for example our stack includes: SAP HANA, SAP MDG, PowerBI, Qlik Sense, Qlik Replicate, Collibra, Snowflake, DBT. SnapLogic.

  • Experience of visualisation technologies (we are focused on Power BI and Qlik Sense),

  • Experience with code repositories such as GitHub.

  • Production experience delivering CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions). 

  • Knowledge of data architectures, design including data modelling

  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting data issues, analyzing end to end data pipelines and in working with users in resolving issues. 

  • Advanced SQL skills and Experience in performance tuning SQL.

  • Excellent verbal and written skills for effective communication with a variety of personas including, engineers, testers, architects, product managers, scientists, etc. 

  • Experience working in an Agile team.

  • Experience in leading the technical team.

  • Experience leveraging DevOps to enable automation strategies.

  • Experience with data orchestration & scheduling tools such as Airflow.

  • Knowledge about data cataloguing, master data and reference data management.
