Job Title Lead Consultant – Java Full Stack

Career Level: E

Introduction to role

In Early Science, highly skilled scientists generate ideas and perform experiments that support complex drug discovery projects. The environment is driven by scientific and technical innovation, with diverse workflows, data, vendor solutions and in-house builds. As Lead Consultant – Full Stack Engineer, the work will sit at the intersection of latest software engineering and pioneering science, helping to remove barriers that slow the discovery of new drug candidates. Partnering with Software and Data Engineers, Architects, Analysts, Informaticians and scientific colleagues, this role designs and delivers technical solutions in DevOps teams, troubleshoots complex issues, and shapes the direction of our platforms. The impact is direct: enabling scientists to do work that is not possible today and turning bold ideas into real-world medicines.

Accountabilities

Lead the design and implementation of full stack software and data solutions that simplify scientific workflows, accelerate experimentation and improve quality across therapeutic areas. Modernise on-premise systems while working with a powerful cloud technology stack, transforming siloed systems into a coherent ecosystem that delivers compelling user experiences. Collaborate closely with product, design, data science and scientific teams to build novel products and features that tackle long-standing problems in drug discovery. Take ownership of changes to data models, core architecture and codebase, and develop across all layers of the stack. Champion modern, agile engineering practices, including rigorous code reviews, automated testing, logging, monitoring and alerting. Mentor and support less experienced engineers through feedback, pairing and hands-on career development. Plan, implement and support core infrastructure to improve scalability, reliability, performance and availability. Stay ahead of the curve with technology trends, experiment with new tools (including engineering copilot technologies), participate in internal and external communities, and apply critical thinking to propose robust solutions to complex engineering problems. Ready to help shape AstraZeneca’s digital journey?

Essential Skills/Experience

The role requires senior level technical skills, and we consider the below essential capabilities:
