Role Title: Lead Consultant - Senior Data Product/Planner

Location: Chennai

The ambition, size and complexity of the organisation, coupled with the opportunities afforded by new technology, has led the Board to approve a large-scale transformation programme – Axial.

The Axial Programme will be powered by S/4HANA a new ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system which will be implemented right across the organisation and will provide our business with standardised processes, enhanced financial management, common data and real time reporting, transforming the way we work through our entire supply chain - from bench to patient.

The new system will be used by more than 20,000 employees daily, is foundational to all AZ entities and is central to most core business processes. This is a once in a generation programme for AstraZeneca and will shape our ways of working globally for many years to come.

We are seeking a passionate Data Product/Planner to lead planning and execution of data load and associated activities that enable high‑quality data products for digital, analytics, and AI at AstraZeneca. Initially focused on the Enabling/Finance and operations domain, you will own strategies, hiring resource, vendor management, hands‑on delivery for data remediation, data cleansing, data design, and data loading across Non‑SAP and SAP‑adjacent ecosystems. You will coordinate closely with the Enterprise Data Office to ensure data is appropriately defined and governed, and work with engineering, business data governance, data analysis, and enterprise architecture to drive measurable business value.

What you’ll do

  • Lead project lifecycle: planning, execution, testing, cutover, and release.

  • Use Jira to handle epics, stories, workflows, dashboards, and sprint planning.

  • Drive project governance, risk management, and partner communication.

  • Coordinate with business users, vendors, and PMO on delivery milestones.

  • Work with business & IT partners to understand the business and data requirements.

  • Experience in source to target mapping, Data Gaps, Data Profiling and Impact Assessment.

  • Interpret data, analyze results and provide quick data analysis.

  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex datasets.

  • Defines data modelling standards and applies within all work products.

  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities.

Essential for the role

  • Resource Planning: Experience in hiring and planning resources for data product design, delivery, and transition into future BAU organisations.

  • Support the Data Product Strategy Planning: Solid understanding of planning for data product design, data modelling, and domain-specific implementation, with hands-on experience in delivering data solutions.

  • Manage the Data Hub Remediation, BTG Coordination, and Vendor Management: Experience in understanding data hubs, conducting mapping and design reviews, coordinating with BTG, handling vendors, and providing approval recommendations for remediation activities.

  • Data Load Strategy Management (Non-SAP): Experience working with non-SAP BAU teams, arranging workshops, and defining non-SAP data migration and load strategies, including waves, sequencing, initial and delta loads, and rollback plans.

  • Load Execution: Prepare the Data load summary report, Hands‑on preparation of load files, transformation specifications, and reconciliation approaches; strong defect management and data validation discipline.

  • Tooling: Experience collaborating with ADM/Syniti (or equivalent) for data migration, quality, and governance; ability to guide mapping, rules, and automation. Snowflake to define plans to create data models. Collibra to define the plans to configure data lineage. ETL tools like Talend to define plans to deliver the Data Pipelines.

  • Cross‑Functional Coordination: Effective collaboration with Data Design, Business Partners/Analysts, BTG BAU, and engineering teams to land changes safely.

  • SAP Data Structures (Finance): Solid understanding of SAP data structures in areas such as Record to Report, Enterprise Planning & Management Reporting, Sales & Distribution, Procurement, ESG.

  • Architecture & Governance: Delivery of Data Design/architecture, MRDM, data strategies, and information/data governance in complex environments.

  • Enterprise Frameworks: Experience working within an Enterprise Data Architecture Framework, benchmarking against leading practices, models, and standards.

  • Design & Analysis: Ability to convert business requirements into data models, processing designs, mappings, and profiling outputs with clear lineage.

  • Master & Metadata: Experience designing master data solutions/strategies and applying metadata standards across domains.

  • Communication & Consultancy: Excellent written and verbal communication; strong partner engagement and consultancy skills.

  • Delivery Oversight: Blend of data architecture and analysis with oversight of implementation within engineered solutions.

  • Industry Experience: Exposure to relevant domains such as Pharma, R&D, Manufacturing, Commercial, Finance, HR, Legal, Facilities.

Desirable for the role

  • Understanding of SnapLogic, MuleSoft, Snowflake, Colibra, Talend and ADM Syniti.

  • Experience running a data architecture governance function.

  • Experience coaching junior analysts and guiding team members to build skills for future business (data) transformation
