Accountabilities

In this dynamic role, you'llbe responsible for providing medical leadership across the entire product lifecycle. You'll advise on Research & Development investment decisions, lead pre-launch scientific efforts, and accelerate evidence-based healthcare changes in the real world. Role Summary:

Reporting directly to the Medical Head ofWeight Management and T2D, the GMAL isa key strategic business role, with the ability to combine their unique medical expertise with insights from markets, healthcare professionals, patients, and health systems to develop and execute world-class medical strategies for AstraZeneca medicines and market-shaping teamsglobally

As akeymemberofthe Global Medical Team (GMT)withinaspecificbrand and/ordiseasearea, the GMAL serves as astrategicpartner andleader,workingacrossthemedicalenterprise, R&D, andcommercialfunctions. The GMAL ispivotalinbridgingthe Global Product Team (GPT) and Regional Medical teams (US, EU-Canada, International)and majormarkets,ensuringalignmentto theneedsofmarketingcompanyaffiliates, healthcareprofessionals,and patientsthroughambitiousglobalproductanddiseaseareastrategies. The GMALenablesaffiliatesworldwidetodeliveroutstandingproductlaunches, transformhealthsystems,conductpractice-definingstudies and real-worldevidenceinitiatives, andacceleratethedeliveryofAstraZenecaclinicaltrials.

For GMALStudyLeadpositions, priorclinicaltrialleadershipexperienceandmedicalexpertisewithinthe relevantdiseaseareaareessentialto drive the design,execution, anddeliveryofpivotalevidence-generatingactivitiesthatunderpinAstraZeneca’smedicinesanddiagnosticstransformation.

KeyExpectations of a GMAL; a successful GMAL will:

  • Launch & Performance: Lead the delivery of prerequisites for an outstanding product launch—including strategy, scientific narrative, and key performance indicators (KPIs)—with the ability to critically assess performance and proactively implement actions.

  • Scientific Leadership:Shape,communicate,and championworld-classmedicalcontentandcompellingscience narrativesthatsupportproductsandkeymarket-shapinginitiatives.

  • Evidence Generation:Demonstrateproven experience designing and delivering clinical trials or real-world evidence programs. Shape the global evidence strategy by translating insights into innovative clinical research and observational studies,differentiatingor expanding market access for AstraZeneca medicines, and supporting healthcare change initiatives. Partner with global and affiliate teams toidentifyand address evidence gaps that drive product value and patient outcomes.

  • Innovator:Identifyandcreatenewopportunitiestoacceleratemarketgrowthandimpact,scalebestpracticesglobally,and pilotinnovativeapproachestomedicalstrategyandhealthsystemengagement.

  • External Scientific Engagement:Drive avisibleandcrediblescientificengagementagenda—activelypartneringwithinternationalkeythoughtleaders,societies,healthorganizations, andhealthsystem decision-makerstoensureAstraZeneca’svoice andscienceleadtheconversation.

  • Business Partner:Collaboratewithinternalfunctions(EvidenceGeneration, Medical Information,Publications, Market Access, Commercial, and R&D) toensurestrategicalignmentanddeliveryofhigh-impactmedicalresources, aswellasensuringscientificandregulatorycompliancein all communications andactivities.

Essential for the role:

  • Master's degree with 3-5 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry (Medical, Marketing, R&D, Market access roles), or experience working within a relevant health system setting (clinical, pharmacy, pathway design,etc.)

  • Demonstration of strategic and medical leadership prowesspre- andpost-productlaunch, including theability to define evidence needs, create compelling scientific narratives & strategy, influence &mobiliseothers.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, with the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights and compelling value propositions for patients, payers, and providers.

Desirablefor the role:

  • Medical doctor with experience in obesity medicine

  • Experience with theUSAhealth care system

  • Doctoral-level degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) in a relevant discipline.

  • Recognisedexpertisein the relevant or related therapeutic area.

  • Prior experience leading the design, execution, and interpretation of interventional clinical trials or real-world evidence studies (such as registries, pragmatic studies, or health outcomes research). Deep medicalexpertisein the relevant disease area,evidencedby prior hands-on clinical or research experience.

  • Experienceoperatingsuccessfully in complex, matrixed organisational environments.

  • Successfultrack recordof launching new products or indications.

  • Established relationships with global clinical thought leaders, professional societies, and healthcare organisations.

  • Advanced collaboration and networking skills—internal and external.

  • Experience working on global evidence generation programs, such as clinical trials (phase II/III/IV) and/or real-world evidence studies.
