Location: Barcelona - Spain (3 days working from the office and 2 days working from home)
Introduction to the role
BioPharmaceuticals Medical (BPM) strives for the best patient outcomes by providing healthcare decision-makers around the world with the evidence and confidence they need on AstraZeneca therapies, as well as supporting our internal stakeholders with medical insights and expertise. BPM provides medical leadership with market participation and connectivity while also impacting life cycle planning and execution of all our products. BPM aims to lead AstraZeneca in advancing its scientific leadership, being a great place to work, and keeping patients at the core of everything we do.
The Director, Health Data Implementation leads the strategic development, implementation, and scale-up of innovative real-world data (RWD) platforms and programmes across countries, ensuring they are translated into meaningful action and impact for patients, health systems, and AstraZeneca priorities across therapeutic areas. Existing and emerging platforms that integrate contemporary, location-specific RWD from primary, secondary, and tertiary care settings will be a key focus. Working across Medical, R&D, field, and market teams, the role drives alignment of RWD capabilities and tools to launch readiness, new indication expansion, clinical trial acceleration, and broader enterprise priorities, with a strong focus on embedding RWD into routine practice and sustainable ways of working. The Director partners with internal stakeholders and external collaborators to identify high-value opportunities, mobilize cross-functional engagement, and accelerate the uptake of RWD to inform decisions, shape clinical practice, and support improved outcomes across markets and health systems. This role is focused on deploying RWD across functional areas and geographies to drive maximum impact for patients.
Accountabilities:
Lead the development and implementation of RWD platforms across countries, including agile and cost-efficient solutions, in collaboration with internal stakeholders
Drive the strategic alignment of RWD initiatives to medical, R&D, commercial, and cross-functional priorities across therapeutic areas to maximize patient impact
Lead pipeline and new indication readiness efforts by executing market readiness assessments, coordinating expansion into new therapeutic areas, and enabling outstanding launches through RWD
Partner with R&D teams to leverage RWD for clinical trial site selection, feasibility, and study acceleration, transitioning platforms into business-as-usual for ongoing R&D support
Engage, influence, and partner with senior leaders across markets and cross-functional areas to drive uptake of RWD and ensure sustained business impact
Identify, initiate, and foster strategic partnerships internally and externally to optimize our ability to positively impact health systems through RWD
Build capabilities across local and global teams in identifying, acquiring, evaluating, and leveraging diverse RWD sources across geographies and health systems, continuously improving data quality and coverage
Plan and advocate for scaling RWD programs to maximize practice change opportunities, including leading cross-market implementation teams and managing rollout timelines
Develop new use cases for RWD and advanced analytics by exploring diverse datasets, assessing feasibility, and evaluating emerging technologies including AI/ML and LLM capabilities
Drive visibility on RWD impact through best-practice use case collection, best practice sharing, and contribution to publications and enterprise communications
Requirements
Essential
Medical or science degree, ideally in epidemiology, health outcomes, health informatics or health economics
Expertise in RWD and RWE generation
Experience in healthcare or biopharma industry, with a strong preference for experience in R&I and CVRM therapeutic areas
Experience in product marketing and deployment – delivering new solutions to market (ability to shape a new proposition to deliver value to stakeholders)
Ability to lead and/or engage cross-functional working groups and teams
Proven experience of engaging with and leveraging insights from external customers e.g. physicians, patients and payers
Excellent project management skills
Strong communication skills
Demonstrated ability to influence without authority
Ability to analyse complex data and situations and develop a range of options/solutions
Ability to interpret performance data and to generate high level and detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders
Ability to enthuse, motivate, empower and involve partners to meet challenging targets by providing direction, reviewing performance, and motivating others
Desirable
Background or experience in implementation science
Demonstrated ability to bring ideas to action in the following areas:
- Product launch
- R&D
- RWD
- Market shaping/ expansion
- Unbranded / disease awareness HCP campaigns
In-depth understanding of medical and commercial strategy, methodologies and tools (RWD, evidence generation, customer profiling and segmentation, market research techniques including patient journey mapping, competitive intelligence resources)
Experience collaborating with IT teams to drive technical delivery of new visualization platforms for internal and external use.
