Field Medical Lead

You will orchestrate strategy and execution in the field, partnering closely with internal teams and external experts to accelerate evidence-based care and deliver launch readiness. Accountabilities:
- Cross-Functional and External Partnerships: Build strong relationships with HCPs, hospitals, and key external stakeholders; work seamlessly with internal partners including TA Lead, Medical Affairs, Market Access, Brand/Franchise, Diagnostics, Regulatory, Patient Safety, and Compliance/NomSig.
- Field Medical Strategy and Planning: Define medical strategy with brand and market access teams; translate it into medical Account Plans, HCP Plans, and Disease Area Plans with clear lines between medical and promotional activities.
- Team Leadership and Capability Building: Line-manage field medical associates; recruit, onboard, coach, and upskill the team; establish a disciplined field rhythm including territory reviews, weekly priorities, call planning, and post-visit debriefs.
- Insight Generation and Action: Systematize capture and synthesis of field insights; drive the upward flow of insights; convert insights into decisions and actions across local and global teams; track impact on strategy, materials, and evidence plans.
- Scientific Communication and Evidence Dissemination: Ensure message discipline and field readiness; support congress activities, symposia, medical education, and peer-reviewed publications in partnership with Medical Affairs Managers; oversee current, tailored, compliant scientific materials.
- Core Medical Operations: Oversee customer development, study support, IIS/RWE collaboration enablement, scientific inquiry management, and pull-through of medical initiatives across the therapeutic area; monitor visit quality and follow-up actions.
- Governance, Ethics, and Risk Management: Be accountable for team and individual competence; uphold high standards of ethics, quality, and integrity; ensure adherence to Swiss regulations (e.g., Pharmacode), AZ Code of Conduct, NomSig, and internal medical governance; proactively manage risks and audit readiness.
- Transforming Care and Evidence Generation: Mobilize the team to contribute to transforming care projects, clinical development, and medical evidence generation; build scientific confidence in AZ products through impactful, compliant exchange.
- Field Excellence and Coaching: Define and monitor MSL scientific messaging, visit prioritization, and stakeholder segmentation (account tiers, HCP archetypes, lifecycle stage, evidence needs); conduct shadowing and call reviews; provide targeted coaching to elevate engagement quality.
- Office–Field Alignment and Launch Readiness: Serve as the primary conduit between headquarters and field; ensure timely cascade of data updates, label changes, and strategic shifts; drive on-time field readiness for launches and pivotal data releases.
- KPI Ownership and Impact Measurement: Establish and track quality and impact KPIs beyond call volume (e.g., visit quality scores, insight-to-action rate, percentage of priority accounts with active medical plans, field readiness milestones, contributions to evidence dissemination, compliance metrics); use KPIs to guide coaching and resource allocation.
- Medical Brand Leadership (when assigned): Lead end-to-end medical brand plans for specified assets, including medical strategy, annual tactical planning, evidence generation priorities (IIS/RWE/registries), scientific communication plans (congress, publications, materials), and cross-functional governance; ensure alignment with field execution and maintain clear medical–promotional boundaries.
Skills/Experience:
Professional experience in the pharmaceutical industry, ideally as an MSL or within Medical Affairs. First leadership experience is desirable.
University degree in a health-related scientific field (MD, PhD or equivalent)
Proficiency in German, English is essential. French is desirable.
Solid understanding of respiratory and immunological diseases is advantageous
Strong communication and presentation skills suited to diverse audiences
