The Product Engineer – Analytics Products is responsible for leading the design, development, testing, deployment, and operations for data, advanced analytics, and AI products supporting US insights and analytics teams. This role will provide technical leadership to the DevOps teams, collaborate with platform engineering teams, and harmonize with IT business partners to align with business strategy and translate business needs into technical solutions. As a technical liaison for the IT Capability and Business Engagement teams, you will aid in delivering data, analytics, and AI products for the US Insights and Analytics Teams. Staying updated with the latest in data engineering, advanced analytics, and AI technology is crucial to effectively guide technical teams.

Accountabilities

  • Lead design, development, testing, deployment, and operations for data, analytics, and AI products and solutions supporting US Insights and Analytics teams.
  • Maintain deep working knowledge of US commercial datasets (Sales, Patient, Digital, etc.), their data lineage, business rules, critical metrics, usage, and operations.
  • Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of data engineering and AI capabilities, staying ahead of the latest advancements and industry trends in these fields.
  • Collaborate with Global Capability, Business Engagement, Delivery, and Platform teams to drive the best customer experience and outcomes.
  • Make sure products and solutions delivered align with AZ architecture standards and strategy.
  • Ensure developer productivity and quality by implementing processes, tools, and automation.
  • Provide technical expertise to peers and 3rd party development suppliers as needed to ensure consistency in alignment to AZ IT and Commercial IT standards and processes.
  • Work with platform delivery resources to ensure validation of business and functional requirements as part of product development responsibilities.
  • Evaluate the applicability of new technologies/application features and make recommendations for technology and business strategic roadmaps.
  • Demonstrate expert understanding of the application development processes of AstraZeneca’s implementation of the data product.
  • Serve as a mentor for junior staff members by conducting technical training sessions and reviewing project outputs.
  • Establish partnerships with 3rd party suppliers for staff augmentation and project capacity and provide technical guidance for projects implemented through these suppliers.
  • Serve as an internal consultant for IT and business partners across regions and business areas (Commercial, Medical).

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

  • Partner with Platform Success Lead(s) on continuous improvement opportunities within the platform and product-level backlogs.
  • Identify new hardware/software technologies to fit niche business needs and configurations.
  • Identify issues with current processes and provide guidance on proposed changes to enhance the effectiveness of IT.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • - Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Proven experience in a data/software engineering role
  • Demonstrated ability with building AWS or Azure cloud-based data pipelines and AI solutions
  • Demonstrated ability with Python and Spark
  • Strong experience with Databricks, including Spark-based processing, data pipelines, and the platform's tools for analytics and machine learning
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts, including model training, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring within Databricks MLflow or other MLOps platforms
  • Commitment to staying up-to-date with advancements in data engineering, AI, and Databricks features
  • Experience in Continuous Integration and Deployment methods delivered as part of an agile team
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information in business-friendly language
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing and coaching/mentoring junior engineers
  • Experience developing and managing relationships with 3rd party suppliers
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working in a global organization with a sophisticated geographical structure

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Databricks certification
  • Prior experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Healthcare industry IT environment
  • Experience with IQVIA Claims, National and subnational sales data
  • Experience working within a DevOps delivery model
  • Experience working within a quality and compliance environment and application of policies, procedures, and guidelines
