We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD-level scientist with a strong background in molecular biology and epigenetics to join the AstraZeneca Oncology Safety Sciences team at our suburban Boston, MA research complex. As a Senior Scientist in Epigenetics you will investigate the actions of epigenetic modulators on normal tissue function from a drug safety perspective through in vitro and in vivo studies.  You will work closely with a team of scientists to apply cutting edge technologies to gain a mechanistic understanding of unanticipated toxicities from novel oncology medicines.  Together, we will push the boundaries of predictive safety science with our mission in mind: to discover safe innovative medicines for the patients that need them.

Key Responsibilities

You will be an integral contributor to AstraZeneca’s early oncology pipeline by:

  • Identifying and assessing safety risks around novel epigenetic targets to support our drug discovery projects.
  • Implementing epigenome profiling assays such as ATAC-seq, ChIP-seq/CUT&RUN to support AstraZeneca’s expanding epigenetics portfolio.
  • Developing testable hypotheses and executing studies to characterize the effects of oncology agents on normal tissue function at the molecular and epigenetic level.
  • Collaborating with discovery biologists, NGS scientists to analyze and integrate preclinical data.

Essential Requirements

  • A PhD in molecular biology, genetics, pharmacology, toxicology or relevant field and at least 2 years of postdoctoral research.
  • Proven experience and expertise in epigenetics and transcriptional regulation.  Research experience in stem cell biology within hematopoietic or gastrointestinal systems is a plus.
  • Broad experience in transcriptional and epigenetic profiling including data interrogation, with expertise in epigenetic platforms such as ChIP-Seq or ATAC-Seq.  Experience in single cell approaches is a plus.
  • A strong publication record demonstrating scientific excellence applying molecular techniques to advance the field of epigenetics.
  • Outstanding oral presentation and written communication skills
