Do you have a passion for understanding the epigenetic landscape in blood cancers? Are you a curious, mechanistic, and detailed-oriented scientist? Then AstraZeneca might be for you!
AstraZeneca is a global, science-led, patient-centred biopharmaceutical company focusing on discovering, developing, and commercialising prescription medicines for some of the world’s most serious diseases. But we’re more than a global leading pharmaceutical company. At AstraZeneca, we‘re dedicated to being a Great Place to Work and empowering employees to push the boundaries of science and fuel their entrepreneurial spirit. There’s no better place to make a difference in medicine, patients, and society.
About the Postdoc Programme:
Bring your expertise, apply your knowledge, follow the science, and make a difference. Bring your expertise, apply your knowledge, follow the science, and make a difference. AstraZeneca’s Postdoc Programme is for self-motivated individuals looking to deliver exciting, high-impact projects in a collaborative, engaging and innovative environment. You'll work with multidisciplinary scientific teams from a diverse set of backgrounds and a world-class academic mentor specifically aligned to your project. Our postdocs are respected as specialists, encouraged to speak up, and supported to share their research at conferences, publish papers, achieve their goals and make a difference to our patients.
This is a 3-year programme, with an initial 2-year period and 1 year, merit-based extension.
About the Opportunity:
We are seeking a highly motivated in vitro molecular/cellular biologist to join the Oncology Bioscience group in Waltham as a postdoctoral fellow. This individual will be responsible for exploring the epigenetic interplay driving lymphomagenesis using innovative technology. Specifically, epigenetic factors are often mutated early in lymphomagenesis. Understanding the consequences of these mutations epigenetically, transcriptionally, and mechanistically will help contribute to a better understanding of the etiology of disease and elucidate novel drug candidates. Additionally, the postdoc will be exposed to a range of drug discovery projects from early hit to lead to clinical application by collaborating with scientists across several disciplines.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
- Design and execution of in vitro CRISPR experiments to generate stable cell lines: knockout and knocking (point mutations, tagging)
- Experience in epigenetic assays: ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, RIME, others
- Cancer biology knowledge and experience with haematological cancers
- In vitro biochemical assay experience desired (IP, enzymatic functional assays)
- Development, implementation, and troubleshooting of cell-based phenotypic assays e.g., proliferation, survival, cell cycle, apoptosis
- Using molecular and cellular assays including western blot analysis, ELISA, flow cytometry, and RT-PCR
- Analyze data and maintain clear experimental records; organize and clearly present experimental results to project teams
Why Should You Apply?
As a Postdoc Fellow at AstraZeneca, you will be part of a group of passionate researchers who are dedicated to innovation and the advancement of science in epigenetics, haematology, and drug discovery. This is a novel and innovative research project supported by functions within AstraZeneca R&D and also guided by renowned academic experts in the field. You will lead an independent project in an encouraging and collaborative environment, and you will be able to take advantage of facilities equipped with innovative instrumentation. You will be empowered to share your findings at research conferences and in publications and establish networks which support your research and future career development! Our Postdoc Program will also help you to develop your skills as a scientist.
Qualification, Skills & Experience
- A PhD in epigenetics/haematology or related field
- A strong publication record
- Experience with haematological cancers and in vitro assays
- Demonstrated proficiency in data processing and data management
