This is a 3-year programme, with an initial 2-year period and 1-year, merit-based extension.

About the Opportunity:

Approximately 20% of multiple myeloma (MM) patients harbour t(4:14) translocation leading to NSD2 over-expression. Since NSD2 knockdown in MM reduces cell growth, NSD2 is an attractive therapeutic target with significant drug discovery interest. Targeting NSD2 is not currently possible, but we have identified 170 NSD2 interacting partners including those previously reported in the literature and many novel NSD2 interacting proteins. The validation and characterization of NSD2 interacting partners using innovative technologies such as CRISPRi and next-generation sequencing will provide deeper understanding of NSD2 driven t(4;14)+ MM tumorigenicity and insights into developing novel therapy for t(4;14)+ MM patients.

We are looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow with significant molecular biology expertise who will design and perform experiments that validate and characterize NSD2 interacting partners using innovative technologies such as CRISPRi and next-generation sequencing. There will also be opportunities to participate in high-impact publications as a first author. Doing this will provide a deeper understanding of NSD2 driven t(4:14)+ MM tumorigenicity and insights into developing a novel therapy for t(4:14)+ MM patients.

In this postdoctoral position you will be mentored by Ye Xu, Senior Scientist of Oncology Bioscience at AstraZeneca, an expert in cancer biology with first-author publications in Molecular Cell and Nature Communications. You will also receive mentorship and support from an academic advisor, a world-renowned expert in the multiple myeloma field who has published more than 200 peer-reviewed publications, including in Cancer Discovery.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Design and perform experiments, keeping detailed experimental records and documentation and analysing the results
  • Apply innovative technologies such as next-generation sequencing, and CRISPR screen
  • Meet with industrial and academic supervisors regularly to discuss research progress and plans
  • Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout the training period, including working with mice as needed
  • Attend internal pipeline development meetings and gain an understanding of cancer drug development cascades
  • Participate in publications and presentations as first author or co-author at company-wide meetings, national or international conferences

Qualification, Skills & Experience:

Essential Requirements

  • PhD in cancer biology, epigenetics and chromatin biology or a related field with a strong track record of scientific publications
  • Expertise in cell culture technique, molecular cloning, in vitro knockdown strategies (CRISPR, siRNA), and quantitative PCR.
  • Enthusiasm in tackling complex biological problems, vigorous scientific logic
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to quickly master new concepts and techniques

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in working with tumour mouse models
  • Working experience with next-generation sequencing technologies or CRISPR screen
  • Curious, creative, and collaborative
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
