The Sweden Biomanufacturing Center (SBC)  is a strategic investment to support the AstraZeneca biologic product portfolio. The new Drug Product & Finished Pack manufacturing facility will have the capability to support the Astra Zeneca biologic commercial pipeline, biologic clinical trials and launch programs. We can now offer an exciting opportunity to join our new start-up biologics manufacturing plant located in Södertälje, as our New Product Introduction (NPI) lead.

Business Area

The Sweden biomanufacturing center’s Supply Chain team are responsible for establishing new products at the site and managing our commercial biologic drug product & finished pack products to ensure we successfully supply medicines to patients around the world in the right time.  We are a diverse team that works closely with cross-functional teams both at our site and around our network to ensure excellent customer service.

As NPI lead for AstraZeneca SBC you will be responsible for establishing our NPI processes and lead the introduction projects for AstraZeneca’s exciting biological portfolio. The NPI portfolio contains many exciting opportunities in all areas of life cycle management with focus on NPI and Commercial Supply Chain changes.

What you’ll do

The NPI project teams are multi-disciplinary with participants from all parts of the site and with links to partners and project team members in other parts of AstraZeneca as well as interaction with external parties.

This work involves management and oversight of the process establishment to ensure both regulatory and commercial manufacturing readiness at the launch site. It also involves preparation, manufacturing and supply of launch stock volumes to meet the forecasted demand from the worldwide markets. 

The scope includes both manufacturing and quality control and could cover one up to all steps in the Supply Chain, from raw material procurement to drug substance, drug product, fill, finish, final assembly and packaging. In many cases these project contains investments projects and often have high dependencies with other projects at the site. You will represent the site in global launch teams and the brand’s global supply team. It also includes handover to business as usual (BAU) activities once the new product matures in its lifecycle.

The role offers opportunities to set-up and lead larger change programs with a high degree of sensitivity and complexity. In addition, you manage project budget costs and conduct strategic reviews for e.g. future supply. You manage complex internal and external environments as well as oversee multiple projects’ interdependencies.

Essential Requirements

As our New Product Introduction Lead it is essential to have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, pharmacy, chemistry or related science, or business related field.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Operations as well as a strong understanding of other functions and how they contribute to the objectives of the business.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project/program management principles and techniques
  • 5 years of experience in, and knowledge of, the pharmaceutical industry including experience in at least one of the following areas: supply chain management, new product introduction, business development, logistics and distribution, regulatory/quality assurance, process technology/development.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Foster high performance teamwork and establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders 
  • Collaborate and communicate with team members and all levels of management and in in key leadership forums
  • Drive results as well as take balanced risks and drive decisions
  • Cope with change and is comfortable changing direction and acting without complete information
  • Dealing with a wide range of problems that require well developed conceptual thinking and judgement to find solutions
  • Understanding of Lean principles and practices
  • Fluent in both Swedish and English

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience in product launches & product switches
  • Knowledge and experience in investment projects
  • Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of product life cycle management
  • Knowledge and experience of logistics and planning
