Head of OBU Commercial Data Sciences is responsible for establishing a data science team and capability across the OBU commercial business. This responsibility includes working closely with Senior business leaders to match the potential of effective data science applications to the most urgent business questions and needs. This role is expected to have the ability to establish and embed a team that will build the capability and deliver business solutions which offer innovative and effective approaches based on rich data science experience to enhance commercial execution globally. The role will sit in the Commercial Operations Team and is expected to make a strong contribution to the commercial business at Global and Priority market levels.

Typical Accountabilities

  • Responsible for establishing a data science team consisting of AZ FTE and external partners (where appropriate).

  • Responsible for the development and implementation of long-term Data and AI strategic plans that contribute to the development of the global cross-functional strategy

  • Develops medium to long term goals and operational plans that enable delivery of Data and AI plan within function(s) and which offer innovative and effective solutions to the business

  • May establish standards and procedures across the function with oversight of the management information flow to ensure accurate provision and management of data

  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of business strategy across own functions, coupled with an ability to tailor Data and AI solutions in ways that ensure they drive performance and deliver business value

  • Develop strategic and operational plans with external vendors and partners to ensure business needs are met

  • Develops and maintains effective and supportive relationships across SET areas to understand business plans and implications and so manage, and where appropriate mitigate, business risk.

  • Anticipates future requirements and ensures appropriate processes are in place to deal with changing business direction and the ability to harness external innovation.

  • Set the annual operating budget in line with the agreed strategy and direct the effective and timely delivery of committed outcomes within the approved budget levels.

Essential

  • Bachelors Degree level in a relevant subject area or equivalent years of experience

  • Extensive in-depth knowledge and experience across multiple data and AI specialist areas

  • Proven experience of developing and driving data IA strategy in a complex regulated multi-national environment

  • Proven leadership experience of multi-layered teams in a global environment

  • Significant budget and project management experience

  • Awareness of technology trends

  • Capability in values-based leadership

  • Influencing skills of the highest order

Desirable

  • Masters Degree in relevant quantitative discipline

  • Specific pharmaceutical industry experience

  • Experience in complex global organizations

  • Track record inbuilding successful teams
