Oncology Scientific Apprenticeship
At AstraZeneca we believe in the potential of our people and you’ll develop beyond what you thought possible. We make the most of your skills and passion by actively supporting you to see what you can achieve. We need great people who share our passion for science and have the drive and determination to meet the unmet needs of patients around the world. If you’re curious about what science can do, then you’re our kind of person.
Our scientific research and development is afforded the utmost respect, so we give our people the same. We do everything we can to make sure each AstraZeneca person has everything they need to stretch themselves and see what they can achieve.
Where you start your journey with us doesn't determine the course of your career. So many of our people develop themselves beyond their wildest imaginations, both in terms of their roles and the countries they've worked in. We don't limit their capabilities by what's possible from them now but by what's possible from them in the future.
Where you start your journey with us doesn't determine the course of your career. Many people at AstraZeneca develop beyond their wildest imaginations, both in terms of their scientific expertise and the contributions that they have made within the organisation. Our scientific apprenticeship programme provides a unique opportunity for our apprentices to learn and develop allowing them to fulfil their potential within a structured educational and work-based training environment.
AstraZeneca’s apprenticeship scheme offers you the prospect to learn within a multi-national company gaining technical and research skills whilst working closely alongside industry experts and professionals. In addition to gaining valuable work experience you will have the opportunity to study towards a Biological or Chemical Sciences degree at Kent University whilst earning a competitive salary.
The combination of workplace training and educational study will ensure that you develop the skills and qualifications to provide excellent career prospects for your future scientific career.
Our Scientific Apprenticeship Program commences annually in September at our Cambridge research site. We are offering apprenticeships within several of our oncology research teams. Each of these positions provides the opportunity to gain a unique insight into AstraZeneca’s world-leading scientific research, enabling the discovery of a new generation of cancer treatments.
Training and Development
Our apprentices receive an Apprenticeship Training Plan that describes the training they will need. It will include a mixture of external and internal training that will ensure that each apprentice is fully competent by the end of their program. Each apprentice will gain transferable core skills and knowledge. In addition, they will gain specific skills tailored to the individual requirements of their roles.
Our apprentices initially work towards a Level 5 qualification with one day per week set aside for study. Typically, this will be a Foundation Degree in Applied Bioscience Technology or Applied Chemical Technology. https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/technician-scientist/
