In 2013, AstraZeneca acquired Pearl to expand and strengthen its respiratory products portfolio, We have made strides in bringing therapies to asthma patients. Our mission and vision are to develop differentiated therapeutics for widely prevalent respiratory disease conditions, including chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), by utilizing a proprietary drug delivery platform and existing therapeutic agents administered in metered-dose inhalers (MDIs).

The Site Safety, Health & Environmental (SHE) Manager will develop high level partnership within a multi-national matrix organization to provide proactive direction, strategy, and technical guidance to ensure effective compliance with safety, industrial health, and environmental programs.

What you’ll do:  

  • Develops, administers and improves SHE programs for the Redwood City site.
  • Responsible for SHE communication with related regulatory agencies and hosts SHE compliance audits and inspections.
  • Ensures facility planning, permitting, construction, renovations or expansions are implemented
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders to oversee risk assessments and ensure new products/process/equipment are introduced to the facility safely. Oversees/performs JHAs, safe work permits, etc.
  • Provide training to all employees, consultants and contractors on site-specific SHE topics.
  • Create, manage, evaluate and report on leading and lagging SHE indicators.
  • Lead investigations and assist with the development of  corrective and preventive measures for SHE incidents.
  • Primary contact for SHE issues/emergencies
  • Conducts internal compliance audits regularly. Works with staff and management to correct identified deficiencies.
  • Responsible for maintaining required records and permits for the site.
  • Plan, review and manage allocation of resources with a $1.5 M budget
  • Directs new initiatives and improvement programs aimed at ensuring compliance, continuous improvement, technical excellence and improving cost-effectiveness
  • Leads a multi-disciplinary team defining and achieving Safety, Health and Environmental regulatory compliance and work standards and associated procedures, to ensure the assets meet business needs and satisfy external regulators
  • Manages the interface with relevant external regulatory bodies and maintain effective community liaison on all aspects of Safety, Health and Environment

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree level qualification
  • Significant pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
  • Safety, Health and Environment, Good Manufacturing Practice and regulatory management knowledge
  • Lean manufacturing principles, understanding and experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification-CIH or CSP
  • Understanding of the Incident Command System
  • Experience in people management and networking in a matrix organization
  • Experience planning and managing financial budgets
  • Vendor management skills.
