Acerta Pharma in Oss, the Netherlands, is a European R&D centre of the AstraZeneca group dedicated to the discovery and development of novel innovative drugs for the treatment of haematological malignancies. As part of the significant expansion of our research activities in the Netherlands, we are in the process of building a new research centre in Pivot Park with state-of-the-art research laboratories for more than 120 researchers. 

This year we will hire great new scientific talents for our BioScience department, which is dedicated to cancer target discovery and compound development. Working at Acerta Pharma also means working with other research teams in the global AstraZeneca Group.

Your challenge

As our new Scientist Biology (technician) you will be part of our growing BioScience Department. In your function, you have experience with various cellular and/or molecular biological techniques such as cell culture, flow cytometry, immunoblotting, ELISA, molecular cloning strategies, RTQ-PCR, next-generation sequencing, gene modulation tools such as lentiviral transgenesis, CRISPR-Cas9 or shRNA techniques or biochemical assays. 
Next to working in various disciplines in local BioScience, you will also collaborate with colleagues from AstraZeneca's Haematology and Early Oncology R&D groups in Cambridge (UK) and Boston (US).
The new colleague is of great importance to the successful expansion of the discovery activities at the Oss location.

What will you be doing?
•    You plan and execute experiments under the supervision of a group leader.
•    You develop, design and conduct experiments and methods to test the research hypotheses with the aim to find leads for the development of new medicines within the field of haematological oncology. As such, you will be able to search for relevant technical procedures and contribute to assay development.
•    You participate in integrated drug discovery activities by interacting with scientists from different disciplines, from Acerta Pharma and AstraZeneca.
•    You participate in data analysis and you prepare data reports under the guidance of your group leader.
•    You ensure accurate and well-organised laboratory data and worksheets and you maintain an electronic lab journal and a laboratory management system in accordance with Acerta Pharma's quality management system.
•    You identify and know how to communicate internally about issues, experiments and experimental approach.

What do we ask of you?
•    You have a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences, Life Sciences (HLO) or related study.
•    At least 3 years of work experience in a pharmaceutical or academic research and/or development laboratory.
•    You have experience in performing molecular biological tests, including Western blot, RTQ-PCR and immunoprecipitations, as well as cell culture and possibly flow-cytometric analyses. 
•    Furthermore, you have a good basic knowledge of cell biology, preferably with a focus on oncology and cellular immunology, and of molecular biology (modulation of genes and translation via CRISPR/Cas9, shRNA and RNAi methods).
•    Ability to critically evaluate experimental design and results is a benefit. 
•    Experience with data processing, analysis and archiving is a benefit.
•    Competencies: you have high demands on quality, safety and environmental compatibility, enjoy working with great precision, and you are reliable and a professional team player with good communications skills. 
•    Excellent command of English.

Acerta Pharma

Our international headquarters is located at the Pivot Park in Oss, the Netherlands, and will grow from 80 to 120 employees by the end of this year. We are working to develop new treatment options for patients with specific types of blood cancer. Together with our colleagues of AstraZeneca in Gaithersburg, San Francisco, Boston (US), Gothenburg (SE) and Cambridge (UK) we are committed to innovative drug discovery and development, especially in the field of haematological oncology.
Acerta Pharma has received approval from both the US (FDA) and the European Regulator (EMA) for its small molecule BTK inhibitor, for the treatment of patients with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). In addition, AstraZeneca and Acerta Pharma are collaborating on a large number of other innovative medicines to treat haematological malignant diseases.
