This position is responsible for the overall development and execution of AstraZeneca’s reimbursement planning (Early to Late), access and HTA strategies and public and private submissions to enable patient access to our medicines and vaccines. The Director/Head oversees and manages a team of professionals, determines resources and engages with leaders across the business (business unit heads, finance, regulatory, medical & scientific, global BBU market access and global oncology market access to set priorities, develop strategies and execute plans that support AZC’s business objectives in both the near and long-term. The incumbent will be one of the key members of AZ Canada’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT).
This position is a critical enterprise-wide role within AZ Canada and has regular interfaces with the AZC Executive Team (ET), Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for prioritization and strategic commercial directions.
Reporting to the Vice-President of Value, Access & Policy, the Director/Head Innovative Value & Access Strategy is a key strategic leadership position within AstraZeneca Canada.
Responsible for the overall development and execution of AstraZeneca’s reimbursement planning, strategies and submissions to enable patient access to our medicines and vaccines.
Oversees and manages a team of professionals, determines resources and engages with leaders across the business (local, regional and global) to set priorities, develop strategies and execute plans that support AZC’s business objectives in both the near and long-term.
Lead, develop and cultivate the Market Access and other HE teams, creating a team culture aligned to AstraZeneca’s values, fostering an environment of innovation, a solutions oriented approach to problem solving and a strong drive to deliver results.
Oversees development of the market access strategies and plans, including payer engagement plans, for all inline and pipeline products within the therapeutic areas, and is accountable for achieving business objectives.
Responsible for leading strategic planning and delivery of Innovative Value Strategy (IVS) for all inline and pipeline brands of medicines and vaccines.
Responsible for ensuring commercial alignment of market access strategies and plans and will be a key member of the Business Unit Leadership Team.
Establish the departmental goals and objectives, set targets and measurements, aligned to functional and Canadian business objectives.
Engage with department leaders in national head office and field locations regularly to ensure departmental and business objectives are aligned.
Leverages insights as well as environmental trends to develop foresight to inform strategies and plans.
Lead and/or participate in local, national and global-cross functional teams to address and support market access and external relations needs within the business.
Ensure appropriate training and development opportunities are delivered to build a pipeline of talented professionals, capable of filling future vacancies
Responsible for collecting and reporting Adverse Events in accordance with AstraZeneca policies andprocedures
Bachelors’ degree in a relevant quantitative or business or any science discipline
Experience of leading market access, health economics, health technology assessment (HTA) and value-based healthcare
Significant relevant pharmaceutical experience (10+ years) in market access, government affairs or health economics with a proven track record of success
Subject matter expertise in market access, health economics and innovative payer solutions
In-depth knowledge of pCODR, CDR, INESSS and private payer processes
Proven team and people leader with previous people management experience
Ability to think strategically about complex and systematic challenges, and ability to plot a solutions oriented approach is critical
Track record of leading cross-functional planning processes
Business acumen and credibility at senior commercial levels required
Strong interpersonal and influencing abilities
Excellent communications skills (written, spoken and presentation)
Fluency in French is an advantage
