AstraZeneca is a global, science-led biopharmaceutical business and its innovative medicines are used by millions of patients worldwide! AstraZeneca has long been an advocate of student work placement training. These placements immerse students in the pharmaceutical industry, allowing the opportunity to contribute to our diverse pipeline of medicines whether in the lab or outside of it. You will feel trusted and empowered to take on new challenges, but with all the help and guidance you need to succeed. At AstraZeneca, you will engage in meaningful work within a pioneering research and development organization. This placement will help you develop essential skills, expand your knowledge, and build a network that will set you up for future success. You will be surrounded by curious, passionate, and open-minded professionals eager to learn and follow the science, fostering your growth in a truly collaborative and global team.
Introduction to Role - The role is within the Operations IT department, in the Engineering Capability team. The team is responsible for specifying and ensuring the delivery of the IT required to run the new factories and major site expansions that AZ is investing in across the world! These major investments include things like building new pharmaceutical factories in Singapore and China, expanding AZ factories in Europe and America, and building new facilities for new areas in medicine such as Cell Therapy treatments.
Accountabilities - We want you to build a catalogue of AZ's foundational IT systems, showing their key purpose and functionality, including video content, such as interviews with system experts and demonstrations of the systems. We will then use this catalogue to help with the design of AZ's new pharmaceutical factories, by ensuring that people have a better understanding of the systems that AZ uses and can make more informed decisions about their use in the new facilities. You will be working alongside very experienced AZ IT staff who are willing to share their experience, in an environment where you will be part of a global team, working on AZ's major investment projects round the world.
Essential Skills/Experience -
- Being personable
- curious
- structured
- a quick learner
It would be useful to have some understanding of IT systems, but there is no need for any deep technical knowledge, as the key thing to understand is what are the systems are used for, and how they help AZ produce medicines for patients. If you have experience of using Microsoft products such as Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint etc. that will help.
This placement will run from 02/06/2025 - 22/08/2025.
Applications will be open until Monday 17th February and you can expect to hear from us by the end of March 2025
