The External Supply Manager will be responsible for the reliable and efficient supply chain operations in support of customer demand defined by Global Supply Chain and Strategy. This includes contributions to key decision points ensuring alignment across multiple suppliers.  Operatinwithin the tactical planning horizon, they will lead the evaluation of demand and supply scenarios, risk management mitigations and manage resulting implications along with the optimisation of supply chain performance, inventory plans and trade-off proposals.

The External Supply Manager will partner effectively across the organisation with External Operations Leads, Procurement, and Network Supply Planners (NSPs) to ensure that all proposals are clear, detailed understanding of all associated costs, and implications across the supply network are defined to support decision making.

What you’ll do

The External Supply Manager supports the External Supply Lead in ensuring that the External Supply Network is aligned to meet company objectives across the supply horizon. Within that supply horizon they will support the resolution of imbalances identified within the S&OP cycle working in partnership with NSPs & operations teams to deliver optimal outcomes.

In collaboration with the External Supply Lead, they will drive the ongoing optimisation of service, cost, cash and sustainability for their portfolio, aligned to business objectives. They will collaborate closely with Global Supply Chain, External Supply & Manufacturing Strategy Leads, Operations teams & Procurement. They will work closely with the Suppliers to maintain an accurate view of the supplier capacity to feed into Global Supply Chain and Strategy (GSC&S).

They will also be responsible for performing the financial compliance (SOx) controls within their portfolios, working closely with the External Supply Coordinators.

Additional responsibilities include

  • Supply chain management of an agreed portfolio of suppliers.
  • Providing a capacity view to GSC&S NSP and ESM Operations unit
  • Ensuring supply chain continuous improvement activities are implemented within agreed portfolio.
  • Process ownership for assigned supply chain management processes
  • Maintaining standards and ways of working across technology areas.
  • Attending Supply Consensus meetings to represent ESM for assigned portfolio of suppliers
  • Ownership and execution of monthly, quarterly and annual compliance controls in line with SOx guidelines.
  • Validation and sign off of SOx evidence in preparation for SOx auditing. Lead input into bi-annual auditing process.

Essential requirements

  • A degree or equivalent in Business, Logistics, Sciences or Engineering is preferred, equivalent experience will be taken into account.

  • Prior experience in Supply Chain Environment (Manufacturing, Planning) and Supply & Operations Planning process

  • Experience in collaboration with the key interfaces within the end to end supply chain, with manufacturing and between supply chain and commercial functions – experience working with third party suppliers.

  • Excellent communications and collaboration skills required to manage a multitude of customers and collaborators, both internal and external to AZ.

  • Experience in managing and developing solutions for supply chain events.

  • Proficient in using key Lean Tools

Desirable Skills

  • APICS / CSCP or equivalent certification

  • Understanding of and contributing to an S&OP process.

  • Experience of performing SOX and financial controls.

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience preferred
