Early Chemical Development (ECD) Pharmaceutical Sciences Summer Internship
Broadening Horizons Chemistry Summer placements – Early Chemical Development (ECD) Pharmaceutical Sciences
What will you be doing?
AstraZeneca is a global, science-driven biopharmaceutical company dedicated to discovering, developing, and delivering innovative, meaningful medicines and healthcare solutions that enrich the lives of patients!
Pharmaceutical Sciences is a function within the AstraZeneca’s Biopharmaceuticals R&D unit and that creates innovative, cost effect solutions by transforming molecules into investigative medicines meeting unmet needs of future patients. The function has several departments including Early Chemical Development (ECD) and Advanced Drug Delivery (ADD).
The ECD department’s responsibilities span from early engagement with Discovery Chemistry groups to manufacture of Phase II Clinical material, and its key skill areas include Analytical Chemistry, Crystallisation, Isotope Chemistry, Large-Scale Laboratory (Kilo-Lab) Manufacturing, Process Chemistry, Process Design, Process Engineering, Route Design, Particle and Separation Science.
In ECD, an exciting opportunity has arisen to support the crystallisation group in their day-to-day activities around process development and increasing our efficiency to isolate the right chemicals with the right physical attributes (i.e. solid form and particle properties).
As a member of this group, you will gain a lot of understanding around drug substance and how Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) are made from route design, process design and through production. You will also get exposed to the impacts of API quality to drug product (e.g. tablets).
The role is based at the Macclesfield Campus, Cheshire. The role is primarily laboratory based.
ECD is committed to personal development and as such ensures that every individual has opportunities to learn.
