Chemical Development Sustainability Technical Lead - API Manufacturing
Introduction to role
Pharmaceutical Technology and Development (PT&D) is the bridge that turns brilliant science into actual medicines that help millions of people. We work across the entire value chain, designing and delivering active ingredients, formulations, and devices required to support new medicines and the commercialisation of products.
Chemical Development is responsible unique responsibility for route design, process development, and lifecycle management of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). Approximately 25% in emissions from pharmaceutical companies can be attributed to the manufacture of APIs.
To meet our AZ ambition to reduce our carbon footprint by 50% by 2030, we are driving improvements in our current commercial portfolio and in our new products. Our approach in creating this role is to cover process improvements, in solvent recovery and solvent replacement with bio-renewable solvents. We are a multi-disciplined department.
Responsibilities
As a member of a cross-functional AZ sustainability team focusing on several decarbonisation strategies, you will be responsible for identifying, defining, and ensuring delivery of improvements to reduce the carbon footprint within API Manufacturing in PT&D.
This will include:
Interpreting lifecycle analysis data across products to identify key areas and activities to progress in order to reduce our manufacturing carbon footprint, this will be done in collaboration with project teams
Input prioritised activities to an AstraZeneca 5-year Scope 3 reduction plan
Use your proficiency in lifecycle analysis tools, to model the impact of manufacturing changes on carbon footprint, driving prioritisation and supporting argument development.
Influence yearly targets for carbon footprint, monitoring and reporting these key performance indicators and identifying areas for continuous improvement
Defining, rolling out, and managing the operating model for the delivery of the improvement program in chemical development, clearly defining roles and responsibilities
Define resource requirements and input to other budgetary considerations "Scope 3" plan
Encourage active participation and communication among collaborators with a strong communications approach
Essential Skills/Experience
A degree or PhD or equivalent experience in a related scientific subject area
Experience of working within the chemical industry
A technical understanding of API manufacture is crucial for this opportunity
Ability to interrogate data
