Program Manager, Information Management – Digital Health R&D

The Digital health Market will grow by more than $300M and at 29% CAGR over the next 3 years, with new applications in digital showing in phase 3 studies significant benefits for patients including overall survival in Cancer

AstraZeneca would like to leap frog in this area and has prioritized digital in R&D as a critical strategic area of focus by 2025, as part of the overall company strategy

Digital in R&D journey incorporating 3 key stages

  • Stage 1 – foundational, reimagine how we work, by maximizing the use of digital, data and analytics transform processes within R&D to gain significant benefits on speed of the portfolio (goal 9 months acceleration) productivity (goal -20% reduction in cost per patient per year) quality at source, patient experience and probability of success

  • Stage 2 – advanced, reimagine clinical trials to improve patient outcomes, example redefining patient populations, remote clinical trials, patient apps to reduce/manage adverse events and improve patient outcomes (OS), using data from EHMr and RWE instead of control arms, and through PROs and continuous patient monitoring, creating new end points enabling studies in earlier stages of disease (ctDNA changes) prolonging significantly patients’ lives

  • Stage 3 – futuristic, reimagine healthcare, examples, AZ as a healthcare provider beyond medicines for certain indications (example: Breast Cancer, proving monitoring, predictive analytics and therapies for improved outcomes), full integration of Multiomics (imaging, genomics, proteomics …) to better predict and significantly improve patients health

Role Summary:

The Information Management team within Digital Health R&D has the important accountability of delivering the Digital Platform for AZ R&D! The team supports Clinical Trial acceleration by overseeing data consumption in a future ready data architecture through business insights and consuming of visualizations. As the expert program lead, you will hold the significant role of helping provide technical leadership and support the Information Management workstream within Digital Health R&D. In this role, you will lead a global based group that ensures effective collaboration between IT and the AstraZeneca R&D business. You will act as an expert authority within a cross-functional multi-skilled team comprising of specialists from a number of disciplines.


  • Develop and manage an Agile Product Roadmap for Information Management that helps us arrive at a more coherent story around who we are, what we do and provide an explicit connection to the benefits of the business.

  • Oversee or provide expert technical support to a a global team of Product Owners to ensure the program adheres to key milestones

  • Lead the governance process for Information Management projects reporting on costs, risk management, scope clarification and tracking benefits of business improvements

  • Ensure that all improvement project work is carried out with regards to AstraZeneca SAFe-AGILE standards and external regulations

  • Network with colleagues across the business and experts to identify best practices and alignment across the Digital Health R&D portfolio

  • Ensure efficient and effective leadership and management of the Information Management portfolio

  • Keep self and others up to date on recent developments and emerging trends on an internal and external basis

  • Matrix management responsibilities, managing indirectly/directly ~1 -3 individuals with global remit

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or comparable job experience

  • Experience in Agile experience as a Scrum Master or Project Manager

  • Background in Program/Project management, process design and improvement while using Agile principles and methods

  • Experience implementing Agile/Scrum to new and existing teams

  • A passion for detail with ability to synthesize to appropriate audience

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Experience using Agile performance metrics to drive accountability and continuous improvement

  • Relationship management, execution & delivery

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills with effective communication with senior management.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Strong leadership and influencing skills at the senior management level

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Project management experience in digital healthcare related industry to include large, complex, enterprise-wide and multiple concurrent projects and/or programs.

  • High level of energy and engagement

  • Proven leadership and motivational skills

  • Build commitment and empower others, communicate with clarity, courage and timeliness

  • Results-oriented with demonstrated ability to apply strategic and decisive problem-solving skills in ambiguous situations.
