Global Product Leader – Late CVRM BioPharma R&D – Roxadustat

We are looking for two Global Product Leaders (GPL) to join Late CVRM BioPharma R&D within AstraZeneca. The GPL is a key leadership role for projects and have accountabilities that are critical to the delivery of AZ business objectives and portfolio value targets. In this role you will be accountable for the leadership of an indication level cross-functional Global Product Team (GPT). More specifically we have one role in CKD anemia and one role in Oncology anemia. Background experience in the disease areas is desirable but not mandatory.

These GPT´s are sitting under the Roxadustat Franchise and you will represent the GPT in this Franchise team.

Roxadustat is a key priority product for AstraZeneca and will contribute significantly to our ambition of becoming a leading company in Renal medicine.

This role will report to the SVP Late CVRM in R&D BioPharma but works in close collaboration with the Global Franchise Head leading the Roxadustat Franchise team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Development & delivery of product/indication strategy
    • Defines and drives strategic and scientific value creation including development, approval, growth and maturity, integrating diverse internal and external perspectives
    • Partners with the Commercial representative to generate, evaluate and deliver optimal commercial strategies to maximize the value of the indication/product
    • Development and maintenance of integrated product development plans
    • Development and delivery of the product Target Product Profiles (TPP) and Target Product Claims (TPC)
    • Development of business cases for governance endorsement including Ph3 ID, Commercial ID and subsequent Life Cycle Management
    • Operational execution of governance-approved business cases within tolerance on time, cost and quality, if applicable working with the Global Franchise Head as required to resolve issues
    • Effective and transparent risk, opportunity and issue management at strategic and operational levels
    • Drive innovative and novel ways to accelerate development & maximize value for patients and the company
  • Ambassador for the indication internally & externally
    • Engagement and consultation with Key External Experts. Establishing and nurturing effective networks
    • For a product, partnering with Investor Relations to develop and actively manage the external messages for the analyst community for end of year results and all other material business interactions
  • Builds and effectively leads high performing cross-functional teams.
    • Strong, creative and visible leadership of a high performing, efficient cross functional team of global functional leaders responsible for the delivery of the indication/product. 
    • Works with line managers to support effective capability development of all GPT members
  • Ensure appropriate Governance and Compliance and protect AZ´s Rights, Data and Intellectual Property
    • As an indication GPL you are supporting the Global Franchise Head with below activities:
      • Development and execution of publication and PR strategy for the product
      • Approve all external information on the product (including publications, regulatory documents, clinical trial registers etc.)
      • Manage and protect the Intellectual Property (IP) assets of the products in consultation with IP and legal experts including leadership of the Patent, Regulatory and Legal Defense Team

Essential Requirements:

  • Science-based degree (or equivalent) and /or will be medically qualified.
  • Expertise & experience in some areas of the drug development process, coupled with the appropriate regulatory and commercial insights.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language and in alignment with AZ business
  • Proven track record in delivering high risk programme/projects and decision making
  • Proven skills and experience of managing and controlling large budgets
  • Ability to convince and manage negotiations across a complex group
  • Fully conversant with science as it relates to the brand
  • Strong vision and excellent problem-solving skills, passionate, and have the drive to succeed.
  • Entrepreneurial in the style of working and have the energy level to create and lead a group of motivated individuals
  • Ability to communicate and influence at high levels with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to learn new information rapidly and effectively

This role requires excellent inter-personal skills and ability to build successful internal/external partnership and collaboration relationships while demonstrating cultural sensitivity and awareness. In addition, it is important that you are both comfortable and able to operate effectively in a global multidisciplinary matrix environment.
