Summary of the Group:

Join us to be part of bringing life-changing medicines to patients in the Manufacturing Sciences Group! We are now recruiting Pilot Production Supervisor for our second shift to be a part of the Support Services team within Manufacturing Sciences. The position will reside in Gaithersburg, MD, USA.

The Manufacturing Sciences team, based in Gaithersburg, Maryland, is a fully integrated process scale-up and cGMP biomanufacturing function. At our Pilot Plant Facilities, our dynamic clinical manufacturing team performs bioprocessing operations for novel molecules to support the development of new medicines. We produce pre-clinical and early through late stage clinical drug products that advance AstraZeneca’s biologics pipeline. Our integrated team collaborates with our counterparts in technical process development; manages and assures the supply of raw materials; performs non-conformance identification and resolution activities; and provides engineering, technical service, and process automation functions.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
In this role you will be supervising a team of highly motivated individuals responsible for Support Services for the Clinical Biologics Manufacturing operation.

Must be available to work 2nd shift hours:  2 PM – 11 PM

  • Responsible for supervising buffer and media solution preparation, Glass washer and Autoclave operation, and placebo preparation.
  • Responsible for preparing the daily operational schedule, and overseeing the accurate and timely completion of clinical manufacturing campaigns and the associated cGMP documentation.
  • Participate in the technical transfer, planning, implementation, and maintenance of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Reviews and approves manufacturing production records, standard operating procedures, and solution preparation records.
  • Ensures training records for subordinates are accurate and current.
  • Hire, develop, and oversee the performance management process for subordinates.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the sciences and 7+ plus years’ experience in  large-scale solution prep in a manufacturing environment, preferably including 2+ years supervisory experience.

Required Skills:

  • Must have prior cGMP experience.
  • Experience working with production equipment such as washers, autoclaves, filtration devices, etc.
  • Experience weighing materials, working with large scale fixed tanks, CIP / SIP activities, and performing SOP revisions.
  • Must have good interpersonal skills and be attentive and approachable.
  • Must have ability to act as a mentor for less senior personnel, and to actively work to develop subordinates within the organization.

Desired Skills:

  • Prior supervisory experience a plus.
