Summary of the group :
Logistics and Clinical Supply is a key group embedded within Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD), the large molecule CMC development power-house of AstraZeneca. As part of our team in Gaithersburg, MD you’ll play a pivotal role in bringing BPD science to patients. We’re right at the front end of an integrated R&D organization delivering life-changing new medicines to clinical trials worldwide. In this role you’ll have the opportunity to work across all of our key therapeutic areas including oncology, respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, infection and vaccines. Assist in the leadership of the Vendor Management Team within Logistics and Clinical Supply (LCS).
Manage vendor relationships for LCS to ensure highly effective sourcing, deployment and management of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP) related vendors globally.
Assist with oversight of functional budgetary activities across the LCS department providing clarity of budgetary planning & reporting, and liaising to support delivery of functional spend in line with financial targets
Champion Regulatory compliance activities within the LCS function
Work collaboratively within LCS, with external vendors, and with all other interfaces and stakeholders as required to enable highly effective outsourcing of clinical supply chain activities for biologics projects in Development
Apply skills and knowledge to advise and develop vendor intelligence and improvements appropriate to enable ongoing seamless and efficient IMP vendor sourcing activities LCS
Play an active role in the operational leadership of the LCS Vendor Management team
In this role, the Senior Vendor Manager will manage vendor relationships for LCS to ensure highly effective sourcing, deployment and management of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMP) related vendors globally. This role will be responsible for assisting with oversight of functional budgetary activities across clinical supply chain projects providing clarity of budgetary planning & reporting, and liaising to support delivery of functional spend in line with financial targets.
Partner with stakeholder departments to develop, communicate and deliver a risk mitigated sourcing strategy and to ensure that any issues relating to IMP related vendors are highlighted, and that solutions are provided for the project and for other similar projects in Development
Manage Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) program to maintain appropriate business partnerships with suppliers.
Create, deliver and maintain project budgets for assigned clinical studies, including addendums where required for additional scope of work and arrangements for study contract closeout with vendor
Assist in leadership of LCS Vendor Management team within Logistics and Clinical Supply (LCS).
Influence, own and promote functional deployment of optimal working practices, systems, and tools, to ensure robust vendor management activities
Lead departmental process improvement initiatives as required
Education & Experience Requirements:
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in basic or applied science or engineering, and may have a higher level qualification such as a Master’s degree.
BS and 12+ years relevant experience (or 15+ years of experience in lieu of BS degree)
MS and 10+ years relevant experience
Direct knowledge and understanding of vendor management to support clinical supply activities including experience in selection of third party vendors, reviewing vendor bid and contract negotiation Broad knowledge of biopharmaceutical product development and demonstrated ability to achieve results in a cross-functional, multi product environment Experience managing people (either as line or matrix manager) preferred, and proven ability to work in a dynamic environment and collaborate within cross functional teams to deliver complex projects.
Some experience in planning and managing all aspects of IMP management for clinical studies, including oversight of vendor management of GMP operations. Thorough understanding of cGMP, GCP and ICH guidelines as related to IMP management. A high level of commitment, flexibility, initiative and independence, with strong skills for planning, coordination, teamwork, communication and interpersonal relations Strong analytical skills whilst demonstrating with keen attention to detail, aptitude for technical troubleshooting on IMP vendor contracts and activities, and appropriate tact and diplomacy in building / managing interface relationships.
