The Microbial Sciences group at AstraZeneca is studying the impact of the microbiome on the host immune response. We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of science to deliver life-changing medicines to patients, with a passion for discovery and a pipeline to show for it. We’re pioneering innovative research and exploring novel pathways through which the microbiome can be used across key therapeutic areas including respiratory, inflammation and autoimmunity, cardiovascular and metabolic disease, and infection and vaccines. Conduct in vivo/in vitro experiments to assess the impact of the microbiome on mucosal immunology, systemic inflammation and therapeutic efficacy in models spanning cardiovascular, metabolic, and renal disease areas.
• Degree in immunology, cell biology, or related subject
• Relevant experience in the industry (preferred) or academia
• M.S. with 2-5 years additional experience; B.S. with 5-8 years additional experience
• Experience working with animals is required and prior experience with the microbiome is highly desired.
• Broad experience required in immunologic assays (e.g. flow cytometry, single-cell sequencing, ex vivo analysis of immune cell function).
• Additional experience in higher level in vitro tissue models (organoid or organ on a chip), confocal and fluorescent imaging, and molecular biology would be a plus.
• Exposure to metabolic, cardiovascular, or renal models is a plus.
• The candidate must be dedicated to maintaining high laboratory standards with regard to safety and quality and must possess good organization, record keeping, and communication skills.
Job complexity: Must be able to understand, conduct and interpret results of technically challenging experiments with minimum supervision, as part of a matrixed and collaborative team.
Supervision: Initial supervision and training by supervisor/team members, but independence expected in long term.
