Here at Global Engineering and Real Estate (GERE) we are accountable for scoping, planning and completing major capital projects across all AstraZeneca sites as well as supporting the broader company through developing and implementing technical support and standards. By putting next generation assets on the ground, the team is playing a fundamental role in supporting AstraZeneca’s strong pipeline. Combining the use of the newest technologies, skilled program management and a broad range of engineering and construction expertise, the team establishes strong and positive partnerships with end customers to build facilities which match requirements and exceed expectations.

What you'll do:

As an Associate Principal, SME (Mechanical Design Engineer), you'll work with a team of specialists within the Global Engineering & Technical Solutions team who provide a range of services to all parts of the AstraZeneca business including:

  • Engineering technology stewardship

  • Identification, translation and delivery of engineering technologies

  • Product and process design and improvement

  • New asset provision

  • Existing asset improvement

  • Digital Solution Integration

Our multi-functional team owns the technical definition and digital integration associated with, pharmaceutical facility capital project delivery. We also provide technical support to address process control and day to day operational problems. As an active part of our global team, you will need to be able to travel internationally

  • You'll be responsible for designing and delivering the technical aspects of Mechanical systems on a variety of capital projects. Working with key business users you will convert our business goals into technical solutions demonstrating influencing and technical leadership capabilities.

  • You'll also be responsible for defining Mechanical systems requirements on projects: communicating these requirements to designers/vendors and ensuring that systems are specified and delivered in alignment with the AstraZeneca requirements. Further you will provide design assurance overview and technical feedback during capital project design - from concept through detailed design and equipment selection.

  • You'll support Project Managers, Project Technical Managers and Work Package Owners during all phases of projects to include supervising the flow of information between designers, vendors, contractors and internal resources to deliver design intent and meet quality standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

  • 10 years of overall engineering experience with a demonstrated ability (5 years min) in the Pharmaceutical Industry or similar

  • Understanding of current GMP regulations and an understanding of regulatory agency expectations and current industry practices

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Comprehensive understanding of either Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems and/or GMP clean utilities (such as purified water systems, water for injection, etc) used in the operation and support of pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities.

  • Significant experience in the specification, procurement, installation, start up and commissioning of mechanical systems.

  • Experience working as part of capital project delivery team from reason development through project execution to handover

  • Experience with design, installation, and commissioning of supporting piped utility systems (such as chilled water systems, heating systems, effluent treatments etc).
