Running alongside your research project, our postdoc training program will help you learn about drug discovery and development from industry leaders working in our cutting edge research laboratories and organization.

About the Opportunity:

Your project will focus on designing and developing next generation monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) that represent one of the fastest-growing class of protein therapeutics. To administer mAbs, devices such as prefilled syringes, autoinjectors, or pens have become increasingly popular as they enable self-administration by patients at home. The small injection volumes of these devices, in combination with high efficacious clinical doses for antibodies demand development of high-concentration formulations. At high concentrations, formulations often become very viscous and introduce a variety of development challenges in formulation, manufacturing, and administration of antibodies. In this project, you will apply cutting-edge protein engineering knowledge and skills to design and develop mAb therapeutics with inherently low viscosity and therefore superior development properties.

You will collaborate with motivated, innovative colleagues in team from across our state of the art R&D facilities. Drug Discovery will help you design and engineer proteins. PK/PD Labs will support testing in vivo properties. Biopharmaceutical Labs will help to characterize development properties of your designer proteins. Digital Science will work with you to develop computational tools that can guide in-silico protein development. As you can see, you’ll get great support, but your passion and drive will make the difference.

This is a 3-year programme. 2 years will be a Fixed Term Contract, with a 1-year extension which will be merit based.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience


  • PhD in structural biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or related fields
  • Strong scientific background in the areas of protein design and engineering
  • High levels of motivation, a commitment to driving innovative science, and great problem-solving skills
  • The ability to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, and work collaboratively across functions
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Track record of peer reviewed journal publications


  • Protein expression, purification, and characterization skills.
  • Molecular biology with advanced PCR and molecular cloning techniques
  • Biophysical and biochemical analytical skills (e.g. ELISA, affinity measurements, dynamic light scattering, mass spectrometry)
  • Experience with in silico/computational tools to analyze protein structure
